LIFE-CHANGING
By Hannah on Reviewed in the United States on January 13, 2021
So I finally caved and got this after pumping standing up in the bathroom at work every night and then ending up with a clogged milk duct after a crazy 16hr shift where I only got to pump twice. As a rapid response nurse, I never know when I’m going to get called to an emergency and the one pump room is often occupied. The Elvie has made pumping at work and home a dream. And I never thought I’d say that about pumping!! 1. This pump is definitely not for everyone. After extensive research it seems like the effectiveness of this pump largely depends on your breast shape, nipple, let down, etc. For me, it works BETTER than my Spectra!! It’s less uncomfortable and I get twice as much milk pumping with the Elvie. Definitely not what I expected! 2. Super portable! I pop them on in the bathroom and then can go chart at the nurses station, drive to pickup my daughter from daycare, do the dishes, indulge in a 15min skincare routine, the options are endless. I wouldn’t do anything crazy, or anything that requires a lot of bending over since I did read that leaks can happen. I try to minimize walking as well since it sloshes the milk around a lot. I’m definitely not coding a patient while pumping, that’s for sure. 3. It does makes your boobs look massive (this Dolly Parton meet Pam Anderson). Especially since I’m already a 32DDD, the girls look huge with the pumps on. But I wear scrubs at work which are baggy, you could also throw a hoodie or scarf over. 4. It is not completely silent. Someone sitting next to you could hear it, however, I don’t think it would interfere with phone calls, zoom meetings, etc. I don’t really care and am not shy around my coworkers. I usually just tell them I’m pumping lol. 5. It comes with lots of pieces! 4 sets of bottles/parts. The only thing there isn’t 4 of is the flange. There are 2 24mm and I think 2 28mm. You could always buy another set of flanges if you wanted though. It also comes with bra extenders which have enabled me to fit them in every bra I own (wired and wireless). 6. The battery life could be a little longer. I get ~3 20min pumps. But for the size it makes sense that they can’t have a huge/heavy battery. It takes about 2hrs to charge I think, but I can’t say I’ve timed it. 7. I have read that the battery can crap out or the device can be damaged by milk. Also, that parts can warp over time despite following sanitizing instructions. However, I also read that Elvie has excellent customer service and will replace parts, even the device with a warranty. 8. One last point, the pieces are similar to my Spectra and it’s about the same time to wash. It just takes some time for them to dry. Long story short, it’s a gamble, but if they work for you it’s worth every penny. There are lots available on eBay that are open box or someone is selling bc it didn’t work for them. I chose to buy new to ensure that I got the warranty. My stress levels over pumping have decreased dramatically and I am putting more milk in the freezer for my baby.

Thought I'd love it, very disappointed.

Let me say I am VERY disappointed in this product. I have tried on multiple occasions to keep using this product as well as seek support. It seems like there is always an issue. Aside from medical factors this pump leaks, has inconsistent suction, and randomly powers off (not pause, it turns entirely off). The only thing consistent about these pumps is the amount of issues it's causing. Over the last month postpartum, I have probably spent too much time stressing about this product. Medically these pumps have caused so much pain and trauma to my nipples. After consulting with a lactation specialist, I was sized to the correct flange and STILL had pain. I went as far as seeing the doctor because blisters formed on my nipples, which ended up also causing thrush! Constantly having open sores from these pumps have led both the doctor and lactation consultant advising me to stop the use! Ridiculous that I'm out hundreds of dollars on these pumps and all the accessories I've invested in to try to make these work for me. This product is promoted as pumping anytime/anywhere, silent, wearable, hassle-free, smart, and responsive. It's really unfortunate that I can find a problem with each of these categories…. How can I pump anytime/anywhere when I have been advised by support to sit still, in an upright position many times? To avoid leaking this is what I was told to fix the issue. NEWSFLASH this item STILL leaks when I do this! Besides the point, the #1 reason to buy this pump is the ability to be portable. When you barely have enough supply for your baby, it's very discouraging and disappointing to have it leak all over. Support also advised me to check all corresponding parts, which I have, and we found no issues there. Just told to sit still…. Which doesn't even fix the issue. What a joke. Makes me wonder how much milk I'm really missing out on, how much my baby is missing out on? What if these didn't leak, could I no longer need to supplement with formula? Really sad I have to stress about this! A silent pump would be great. I have addressed this issue with support as well. Squeezing and a thumping sound (not how it typically should sound) takes place. While they have replaced the pump before, this issue continually arises! Not only that, but I notice every time it occurs, the pain is even worse! Again, pain which has caused blisters and damage to my nipples leading medical professionals to advise me to stop using the product. Sure, the product is wearable, BUT why would I want to wear this anywhere when all it does is leak? As mentioned above, I've been advised by support to sit still when using. Either way, the product still leaks! So as far as being wearable, I'll pass since I soak through my bra and shirt anyway! Hassle-free is a JOKE! While there are only 5 parts to clean, the hassle comes from all the issues which no one can seem to resolve. Continuously saying the same tips (which haven't worked!) and sending new hubs is not fixing these issues that keep occuring. These hubs are a complete hassle and very stressful for a new mom trying to feed her baby. The smart component would be great if the app didn't glitch every so often, but more importantly if the hub would correctly track pumping. Continuously being told the bottle is full and the hub pausing makes pumping longer and more stressful. Even when the bottle is less than half full I run into this issue. Sometimes instead of pausing, the whole pump powers off! Unacceptable! How can I control the pump remotely if it turns off? In addition to this they are constantly losing connection with the app! What a HASSLE. Responsiveness is nice when it switches modes, but again, the bottle full detection is far off! To say the least, I am disappointed, stressed, furious, and unsatisfied. With multiple attempts at searching for help from Elvie customer service with no success and being advised by doctors to stop my use of this product before I cause permanent damage, I find myself out of hundreds of dollars. I have tried many times to make these pumps work, truly. How can I return these and get my money back? I am over the pain and stress. I would simply like to feed my child without pain, discomfort, stress, or permanent damage.
