Totally worth it!

**It does not come with a remote** Our first robot underling vacuum was a BoBi. She worked well for a while and then was shelved when she started slacking on the job. A few years and a few up-right vacuums later my friend told me about this Roomba being on sale. The price and my bank account said we could get it so we did. It was shipped in an Amazon box and packaged in it's original box also. I had some problems with initial setup because it kept verbalizing an error message (holy crap! they talk now?) and the instructions were only vaguely helpful. After too much googling and speaking with my friend who owns an older model, I had to take the battery out and put it back in. This required a search for tools and more work than I wanted to put in for a plug-and-play item. However, that solved the issue and "Bob" (We're an equal-opportunity robot employer) was now ready to clean our floors. Bob kicks butt cleaning our tile floors. He's a little noisier than I expected (noisier than BoBi) but I don't want to clean floors so that's cool. I can't speak to his rug/carpet cleaning ability because we don't have any (none!). He has gotten stuck on the 6" ledge separating two rooms on occasion and stuck under 1 specific corner of our sectional. The little infrared device works well to block off areas but I wish it's reach was longer because the opening between the two rooms is about 8-9ft. We have a dog that sheds Chihuahuas on a weekly basis and Bob handles it with no problems. I haven't tried out the scheduling feature because I always have to clear the floor before I let Bob work. Yes, he could go around it but then ALL of the floor would not be clean. Cleaning the brushes irks me a little because the brush rollers have hard dividers that makes it hard to clean and it does not come with a brush like BoBi did. Bob holds a lot of dirt and hair so that's good too even though I always empty after each cleaning so he doesn't get funky. All in all, a perfect purchase. We have a Dyson cordless upright I definitely prefer the Roomba.

640 is too basic. Get what you pay for.

I have really mixed feelings about my new Roomba. It arrived today, I followed the instructions, and sent it on an inaugural run. It deep cleaned surprisingly well when I opened the bin after it re-docked. The virtual wall worked like a charm. It was quite entertaining watching it work. But the bad news: I bought the 640 because it was the cheapest. I incorrectly assumed it was because it was an Amazon deal. No. It's because the 640 is a base model with no bells or whistles. The 640 is not wifi enabled. You cannot connect it to wifi or the irobot app to control it or schedule it. It lacks the "mapping" feature. Meaning it simply meanders around until either it's battery runs low or it's bin is full, then it finds it's dock (somehow) on it's own. The bot doesn't even have the option of manual scheduling. It doesn't have those buttons. Conclusion: you may want to consider a more expensive model to get the scheduling and wifi so you can better control it. Now that mine's run a course, I don't even know if it'll run again automatically at some point or if it will only run if I press the "clean" button.
