My favorite grinder yet
By jmtk on Reviewed in the United States on December 3, 2019
I've been using this at least twice daily now for 4 months. Had to get the hang of it at first - put on the top with button vertical just to left of your grind choice setting and twist to close. Make sure bottom side opening is closed, then twist open to get out ground coffee. I tap the top of it with my palm to get the ground coffee out of the bottom. I did chip a little piece of plastic off it - that was user error not product fault and it hasn't harmed the integrity of the grinder. I love it because I just press it and it does its job while I boil water and do some dishes or whatever. I personally don't find it too loud - much quieter than other grinders. I fill to top for my 20 ounce mug and set on 2 (almost smallest grind) for cone filter pour over. My stove top tea kettle boils in almost the exact amount of time as the grind takes. It's not to big on the counter - takes up minimal space. The cord is actually much longer than i need - so plenty of room if you want to keep it a bit far away from the outlet.

Was good until it died after a few months of use, a bit noisy too
By Jon on Reviewed in the United States on May 7, 2025
At first, I absolutely loved this bird grinder, it did a great job and was simple and compact to store kind of a cool modern design no complaints whatsoever except I used it for maybe four months 2 to 3 times a week at most and it completely died yesterday, for the price I paid of just about $90. I would’ve expected this thing to last a lot longer. Unfortunately it’s past the warranty date so I’m out of luck on any kind of replacement, but I’m pretty disappointed that I had to say goodbye to this so soon. It was a bit noisy. That’s the only complaint I would have when it was working, but did a good even job of it until it just stopped.

Adequate, but a little too clever for its own good

5/29/20 Update after more than a year of use: minus one star. takes even longer to grind now. around 5 minutes. grind isn't as fine any more, even on the '2' or '1' (finest) setting it still comes out in rather large, uneven pieces. Used for around a month to grind 30 grams (its max) per day. Pros: - Compact, stylish design - Dual voltage convenient for foreign travel - Grind seems consistent Con: - Emptying the thing is an ordeal. Before opening, need to hit it multiple times on all sides to "break" the static and have it settle inside. Somehow small amounts of coffee still "explode" out when I first twist it open. Then I need to bang it hard to make sure all the coffee gets out. On thicker grinds this isn't so much of a problem, but on the finger grinds (which is my routine) it's a chore. - It's louder than I expected. Not deafening, but not pleasant to have a conversation around either. - Takes around 3:30 to do the full 30g, which is about 2:30 more than I think I should be waiting. - There's usually a few beans at the end that simply will not pass into the grinder. AKA popcorn effect. I shake the unit which sometimes causes one or two to catch and grind, but inevitably there's at least a couple of beans that I simply don't have the patience to deal with. - No auto-stop. - It should have a visible or audible warning if the door of the basket is not closed properly. It's easy to overlook closing it (especially pre-coffee fix) and then I get coffee all over the counter. :( Overall it does the job... but it needs some smarter engineering improvements.
Saves space on counter top. Best friends with Aeropress.

Edit: I eventually purchased a faster grinder. I guess I became more impatient over time. Taking off one star for the slow speed of this thing. Original: I bought this to replace a handheld manual burr grinder. I use it for my Aeropress. Two scoops of beans, using the Aeropress scooper, fit into this grinder with a bit more room to spare. Perfect for a 16oz cup of Aeropress coffee. The grinder might be a little louder and might take a little longer than others but I don’t mind. Lower speed = Less heat. Better for the beans? Primary reasons I bought this were it’s size and it was a burr grinder. As you can see from the pic, it takes up hardly any space on the countertop. Getting the grinds out of the grinder. How do you do it? As it is grinding, the coffee grinds fall to the bottom of the grinder. When it’s done, twist the bottom to open a small door. Perhaps only open it half way if you’re putting the grinds directly into the Aeropress. Or open it all the way and be a little more careful as to not miss. Or do it over the sink and bang away. By bang I mean I tap the grinder on top of the Aeropress in order to empty the grinds from it. Finally, the grinder does have several settings to adjust the size of the grind. I tried them all just to see difference. From smallest to largest there is a big difference, with a noticeable difference for each size in between, as you’d expect. I’ve settled on the smallest grind size for the Aeropress. This thing is pretty great. Sure there might be a few areas for improvement, including the price tag, but I’m happy it.

This handheld grinder is easy to use, has a small footprint, and produces consistent grind. It is a bit slow and loud but I can live with that since it is easy to clean. I am on to my third one in this model. I bought my first one at full price but it lasted two and a half years of daily use. After it broke, I tried other models but did not like them. Cleaning up was always a hassle with these bigger grinders and I usually only make one cup of coffee for myself. I ended up going back to the BRIM handheld grinder. I used it for a month and have found that the grinder did not always start when the switch was pressed. Sometimes it took a few tries and I suspect that there was some connect issues with the switch. I returned it but am ordering the same model again because it was extremely hard to find a compact grinder with the benefits that this one offers. Hopefully, I have better luck with the new one.
Do not buy - broke in less than a month & terrible customer service

I had a terrible experience with Brim. First of all, this unit broke in less than a month of use. Similar to other reviews on here, the clear compartment (where you place the beans) became loose and after turning the grinder on, the cord wraps around the entire unit and is completely unusable (and actually very dangerous). I reached out to Brim customer support to request a refund. They asked me to submit a picture of the sticker with the model info on it. Shortly after I did that they said they would like to process my refund right away, but in order to process the warranty they require a photo with a cut power cord to ensure the unit is completely disabled. I did this the same day and sent back a photo. It has now been 2 weeks since they have not responded to process my refund, and I have followed up twice with them. Absolutely terrible experience and customer service - save your money & do not buy this. I recommend the burr grinder from Bodum which is much higher quality, faster, and a similar price point.
Exactly what I needed

My commitment to hand grinding my recently roasted, single-origin coffee every morning survived us having two unruly kids and a demanding dog, but once my old faithful Hario hand grinder began blaspheming with inconsistent grind sizes, it sent me down a rabbithole of optimizing my entire morning routine. I refused to get a barista style grinder mainly because I will only ever grind exactly the amount I need - and it adds eye clutter to the counter. So I went on a mission to find an automated version of the Hario. This product is exactly that. It grinds a single serving to perfection. Bravo Brim. Bravo. For the next version, some suggested optimizations: - auto turn off when chamber is empty (i could then set it and jump in the shower) - a better way to dispense the grinds than the slide opening (a little bit of coffee always ends up on the counter) - larger grind chamber (currently barely fits all the grinds, increases the mess when you slide the opening open)
A core failure in the design of the product

I was very excited to try this grinder because it was the only one I saw with an adjustable grind setting in a smaller size. Realized that this is designed very poorly overall. I recieved 2 of these, first one was broken on arrival & after first use returned the second one instantly. First one was broken when I received it, the power acceptor connection was broken off inside the body. # Core issues - Why make a removable plug on something that needs to be plugged in 100% of the time? It creates a failure/wear point (which failed for me before even using it) - The coffee goes into a cup that's not supposed to be removed easily, but instead you are supposed to use a little port hole on the side. Coffee was all over my counter first try. (Good luck getting all the coffee out of that hole) - The product appears to be well made but you will see the low quality production and poor design choices.
Nice consistent grind

I bought this and used it for about a month. After a month a part broke on it. I had already thrown the box away, so, I actually just used some scotch tape to put it back together and it works slick. This machine is a little loud. You can't grind much at a time and it does take a good amount of time to complete the grinding. But the grind seems very consistent. I use a French press for my coffee and need a coarse grind. This does the job amazingly. I just wish they made one exactly like it in a bigger non-portable version. I would have rated this 4 stars. but because it broke, I am rating it 3.
Buy if you want a subpar coffee after a few months use

First use and there's already coffee beans left not grounded when the majority of the beans have been grounded - not the worst thing in the world. Super easy to use as you only need to load the whole beans, screw the two housings, and press a button. Second problem is that because the bottom cup holding the ground coffee is plastic and it's not airtight, a little bit of coffee will spew out of the cup, have to clean the counter after use as we have a plain white counter, but not the worse thing in the world. Also too bad that it does not come with a rechargeable battery of sort because why have an electric handheld if you can't use it outdoors. Fast forward six months of daily use, the grinder became uneven that the coffee grounds could have been grounded by blades instead of a burr grinder, aka not even at all, so the gf complains about her coffee every morning. No amount of cleaning is able to repair this because the housing is not removable from the grinder itself that I couldn't adjust the position of the burr.
