Accurate and consistent
By Kailou on Reviewed in the United States on December 29, 2023
Coffee gator scale. I bought this to up my home coffee game…and it has succeeded in doing just that. Super easy to use, accurate and consistent for weighing out my daily grind. I’m not super fussy about my coffee - ok, maybe a little. For something I drink everyday I want it to be consistently good. Weighing your grind is an easy and essential step toward that goal. This scale came at a very reasonable cost. It is easy to use - put my drip cone on the scale, zero it out, weigh my grind. Very consistent and reliable. Tap, bump, move or otherwise try to thwart the scale and it always returns to the correct weight. Perhaps a movement of .01grams +/- but not significant enough to matter. Of course this doesn’t make the coffee. It doesn’t choose the beans or grind them properly. It is just an essential step toward getting the right weight so you you get the proper ratio for a consistent daily brew. Oh, although marketed as a coffee scale it is really a nice all around kitchen scale :)

Fairly accurate but extremely slow response
By Keith Highsmith on Reviewed in the United States on February 7, 2022
TL;DR Good features and price. Weight consistency CAN be an issue, but usually isn't too bad depending on your need. Response time is pretty bad and is a bad fit for pour over or other time-sensitive weighing. For the money this is a decent scale, but this is definitely a case of "you get what you paid for." Positives: The display is easy to read and the device is easy to use. I was able to get up and going without even referencing the instructions. The price is also pretty decent considering the number of features. Being able to measure in multiple unit types has been very helpful. Maybe a problem: The accuracy of the scale is not as bad as some people claim. When removing and placing my items I got fairly consistent results. That being said, the scale is very sensitive to the positioning of your item. As long as I was placing the item in the exact same spot and position I wouldn't see more than about .3 units of variation, and most of the time it was less than that. The problem is with items that have an awkward center mass as these can measure fairly unevenly. Works just fine for a basic dosing cup or basket, but far from ideal for something like the portafilter of an espresso machine or measuring out whole beans in the included tray. The negative: The response time is pretty bad. It can sometimes take a full second for the weight to catch up to what is being done. For measuring beans/grounds this isn't a big deal, but this advertises as a pour-over scale and I WOULD NOT recommend it for that. The response times are just too slow to be able to accurately control your pour or to accurately control your pull for an espresso shot. In conclusion: You get what you pay for. While this is not a bad scale by any means, it is not a great fit for people who are looking to take their coffee brewing seriously. There is a reason that professional-grade coffee scales cost $80 plus. This worked pretty well for me as an introductory scale when I was starting off a couple of years ago, but now that I have learned more about the process I am looking to replace it.
