There is no reason this thing should sound exactly like a fire alarm. There is also no reason that it should beep TWENTY times when it's finished. It's egregious. Make sure you don't set it to finish anything over night, it is not air-tight so the things (in my case zucchini chips) will be rehydrated and stale when you wake up. Plus, if you set it to finish at night, you'll be woken up in a panic from the completely unnecessary TWENTY irritating beeps. The way the inside is designed does not seem easy to clean, there is a steep curve which prevents you from sweeping mess out of it easily. I don't hate it, but I certainly won't buy from this brand again after this one dies. Oh PS - you cannot change the twenty beeps setting. I read the reviews about the beeping and said to myself, "that's fine!" It's not fine, it's an incredibly stupid design and they chose the MOST annoying sound possible. I honestly hate changing the settings because I have to listen to the awful sound it makes. Wouldn't recommend, go find one with better reviews.
