So cold!
By Sydney on Reviewed in the United States on July 10, 2024
We purchased this almost 3 years ago and it’s still works great. We were using it in a 1600 sq/ft home, most of the square footage being on the first floor where the ac unit was and it cooled the whole first floor, well over 350 sq/ft. We use it now in a 1700 sq/ft home and same thing. Still works like new. I love the ease of the remote control. We haven’t had any issues with leaking. It is a little loud I guess, but I like the white noise while sleeping so it doesn’t bother me. Unless you’re right up next to it, it really isn’t a bother.

Overall good unit window shaker, could use some features

Update less than 3 years after initial purchase.I used this unit from Oct 19 March -2020 when I replaced my central ac. Circa 6 months. I ended up putting it in storage. I took it out the other day to lend it to my neighbor after their ac went out. Well, you plug it in and the board flashes once and nothing turns on. I contacted tosot to inquire about parts because I couldn't find anything, well they don't sell parts and they have a strict 1 year warranty and told me to pound sand.So in about 6 months of use and less than 3 years of ownership my unit failed on me, and within 4 months of use the swing arm broke. I really can't recommend this product, it failing isn't the worst part, the fact that there are absolutely no replacement parts is truly astounding. I guess we live in a throw away culture. Side not my 6 years portable ac from black and decker is still going strong.Bluf, this thing is cheap model who's parent company is gree and it's made in China and they sell no spare parts. If you need it to last no longer than a year you should be fine.Original post--I was able to get the 8k btu unit from Amazon shipped to me for $208. They had a coupon available.I live in south Florida, so climate is humid and hot. I bought this unit as a "kicker" unit. By kicker I mean I have. 1600 sq ft house that I set the central ac to 80 and put this unit in my bedroom to cool as I sleep, since I'm the only one who lives in the house.Installation:The unit arrived timely and in good condition with good protection in the packaging. It installs like a typical window shaker unit. Unfortunately I didn't realize my window is a 52 inch window so I had to go to home Depot to get some Plexi glass for one side of the unit. That's on me. I had to use some self tapping metal screws to screw the unit in(these were not included). Not everyone will want to do this so nothing to sorry about there. If your window is not metal the screws they provide should be fine.Cooling:This unit does an incredible job kicking out some cold air! The blower fan also moves the air pretty good on high! The unit has an es mode which I assume helps it get it's energy star rating. I find this mode rather agrevatiing as it will kick the whole unit off and on once it reaches its cooling temperature. It ends up waking me up. So I leave fan on high with it in just cool mode and I wake up to all the windows with condensation on them and actually very cold in my room. One thing to note is that the unit has the thermometer on it, and not on the remote so it will kick on and off based on the units thermometer not the remote.Efficiency:I bought this unit because it takes up a maximum of 5 amps on 110. The whole reason I wanted a kicker ac is to pay less via efficiency, and I found it in this guy. If you actually use the es feature I'm sure it'll be even better, but even full tilt it's been a very efficient unit.Issues:The AC swing door broke and is in the permanently open position, so the air flow no longer swings. It broke on month 2. So far I've had it for 6 months. The remote is line of sight infrared, just like a TV. My headboard is in front of it so it doesn't always work. While not really an issue, the fact that it's 2019 and they still haven't made the remote radio frequency just shows that they went very economy on this unit. This is the same thing as ford not putting a 50cent sensor in their vehicles to detect if it's daylight and turn on the headlights. The last thing is that they didn't put the thermostat on the remote, rather it's on the unit. Most minisplit a/c s the thermostat is on the remote so you can mout the remote / thermostat on the wall or near you (which is for your comfort).Overall:At any rate the unit is all one can really ask for in a $200 window shaker, so it's a pretty good for the money, and the efficiency is the best on the market at this time. It cools and blows out air better than some 10k to 12 units.
