Pros and Cons
By JMHO please on Reviewed in the United States on February 15, 2021
I bought this vacuum specifically because I have dogs and cats that shed A LOT! Tumbleweeds of fur go floating by. We have an iRobot vacuum and use it every other day, but it has struggled with the large hair clumps when our dogs are blowing out their coats. We also have two long hair cats that shed constantly too. Our old bagless Hoover finally surrendered, and it was time to shop again. We have mainly hardwood floors with large living area carpets with a low pile. Our upstairs is all Berber carpeting. PROS Extremely good suction. In fact, thin rugs are difficult to vacuum (door mats, office chair carpet pads). It gets up everything in the carpet. There is little to none dirt blow back. Meaning, if you are vacuuming kitty litter, it's not blowing back half of it on your shoes. It is very easy to empty. In fact, a little easier than our other canister vacuum by Hoover. It REALLY picks up dirt and dust. You can see it when you empty it, which is gross and satisfying all at once. The attachments are conveniently placed on the vacuum. They are heavy duty, a good length, and have excellent suction, especially for getting fur off of couches and chairs, etc. The weight seems to add to it's ability to clean more deeply into the carpet. Despite it's heft, it maneuvers well. It has rubber wheels, which I like much better than the hard plastic style. CONS It's loud, but in addition to being loud, it seems to have a high pitched whine to it that I can hear in any part of the house when it's being used. However, I have Hyperacusis, so I use hearing protection when I vacuum, so it's an easily solved issue. It's heavy. Someone in their review weighed it at 17lbs. I'm a small, spaghetti-armed person, so it feels heavy to move around. The biggest challenge is moving it up steps and of course vacuuming them (carpeted). But if you have someone stronger in the family, make a deal, they move it up and down stairs, and you will vacuum, or make them vacuum. If you live alone, this will be the "something" you dislike about the vacuum if you have to use it on two floors. The cost. It was a bit prohibitive to me at first. I typically purchase the Hoover bagless vacuums for under $100. So, this was a tough sell. However, I recognize that you do get what you pay for more often than not. I think the cost is worth it if you need it for housekeeping caused by pets and their hair. It's proven so far to be worth the money.

Our experience shared below--look for some other vacuum

I am just sharing my experience with this Hoover UH74110 model we purchased on Amazon and why I am labeling it as one star. I am sure others have/are having a better experience, but I am just sharing our experience with it. We bought this model a few months ago after having purchased the same model (Pet model) back in 2013. The foot switch broke on that 2013 model along with the fact that it felt like the brush, leveler, and plastic housing were starting to wear out, so I relegated it to keeping and using it in the garage. Flash forward to this 2021 or so model (UH74110). It feels really light, almost cheap-like, as it is probably all plastic. It doesn’t have much weight to it and pushing the vacuum forward keeps the roller brush tight to the floor, but when you pull it back, the vacuum seems to lift off the floor. My hunch is that it is so light that pulling it back towards you doesn’t keep enough weight and suction to keep it close to the floor. Granted light vacuums are easier to move around and are easier on the body, but this model just seems so cheap. I would expect the canister lid clip to break after a few years (we try to keep vacuums for 10+ years). My spouse was using this new model the other day and inadvertently sucked up a t-shirt I had under the bed. Yes my fault, forgot about it, but when she sucked it up, it bent the brush roller on the end and it wouldn’t spin causing the belt to start to burn and smoke. I took it apart to see why the roller wouldn’t spin. I couldn’t get it to spin by hand so I called Hoover customer service to see if I could buy a new one or get a replacement. Because it was “user error” they wouldn’t honor the warranty and on top of that Hoover didn’t have a new replacement roller brush on hand. So the vacuum we purchase two months ago was useless without the brush. I looked around the web for the roller brush part number and it is out-of-stock everywhere. The roller brush is about $30 FYI. In the meantime, I ordered a different vacuum for pets. We bought the Bissell model 2258 for pets and it is night and day better than this Hoover. It stays close to the floor, the cord re-winds, and feels like it pulls up a lot of dirt. Not wanting to give up on the new Hoover model, I took out a vice-grip wrench and forced the roller to spin. I got it to loosen up finally and I sprayed some liquid graphite on the end where the plastic bent. It made a grinding sound for awhile, but I got it to work again. I relegated this Hoover to the basement. All-in-all I would avoid this model in favor of something else. Just my opinion.
