Makes bed super soft
By Willow D on Reviewed in the United States on September 24, 2024
I have a queen size "firm" posturepedic Plus Hybrid Sealy mattress and although it's an excellent mattress, I still experienced some loss in circulation and pressure on my hips and shoulders as a side sleeper. I had been planning on buying this mattress topper for about a month before purchasing. I watched a video of someone reviewing it outside of Amazon and I'd like to share some notes he stated that are true to this topper. If you want to watch that video, look up "Tempur adapt mattress topper review - the best pressure relief?" by Mattress Clarity. The video as of writing this review is 5 years old. For reference, I am 5'6", 107lbs and I'm bony. I sleep on my side but sometimes roll over onto my back during the night. I have osteoarthritis in my left hip and I've had a history of cervical nerve issues, which makes my left arm numb when I sleep wrong. Your mattress underneath has to be firm because this topper is SOFT. You probably don't want to be trapped inside your mattress if it's too soft. If your mattress is, for instance, 8 out of 10 on the firmness scale (10 being closer to that of a tabletop), then this topper will reduce that number to around 5. My mattress is soft in comparison to other brands, so there was a concern that this topper would make my bed too soft, but that hasn't been the case. When I first put this on top of my mattress, I was concerned my hips and especially my shoulders would poke through the foam and be touching the mattress. It might be two inches thick but I haven't actually done that. I'm well-padded. The softness is perfect for me. It did take a few nights for my body to adjust, as I was still waking up with sore hips, but after a month of sleeping on this combo, I wake up refreshed. I was concerned that I'd maybe need the 3 inch topper instead, but the 2 inches work perfectly fine. Maybe in the future when I might wear this one out, I'll get the 3inch. But for now, this works. I also love how, like the tempur-pedic mattress, it's motion isolating. I wouldn't trust that a glass of wine wouldn't topple over, like they used to demonstrate in old tempur-pedic commercials, because my Sealy mattress is a bit springy. So if you're expecting this to be perfectly motion isolating, I think it largely depends on your mattress. If you were like me and were concerned that this topper might shift around without mattress straps, it's ok because mine hasn't budged. However, I do not flop around much while I sleep, so I'm not sure if a flopper would experience the same thing I have been. The box came with a nice fitted sheet that keeps it in place. But for me, this topper has so much grip, I struggled getting it onto my mattress because it decided it didn't want to move. I would recommend someone else help you, especially if you have a queen or larger. But it is doable solo. Speaking of the fitted sheet it came with, you might want to look into replacing the fitted sheet you already have with something with deeper pockets because this topper does heighten your bed. Deeper pockets or size up, like from queen to king. There is minimal smell right out of the package. I didn't mind it at all. I couldn't immediately access my package when it arrived. So this topper was sitting in its packaging for several days. I was worried it wouldn't decompress. Luckily, it decompressed almost immediately by itself. I didn't need to do anything for it to spring into working order. As for my medical issues, I experienced some arthritic pain at first, but that slowly disappeared. I've had zero issues with my cervical nerve to the point where I forget I even have that issue. I would recommend this tempur-pedic mattress topper to those who have similar features to me and for side sleepers. Larger builds will benefit from this as well, but if you're bigger, I'd suggest watching that video because the guy reviewing it is a bigger guy. Update (April 19 2025): Tempurpedic foam, I've learned, makes you sweaty at night. I haven't really stopped sweating with this topper. I am normally a cold sleeper, so this surprised me. Also, it did shift a little bit and it's hard to move it back in place, so I've kept it where it decided to sit. The comfort of this item is too precious for me to get rid of it, that being said.

Cooling cover smells absolutely disgusting
By itasor on Reviewed in the United States on June 22, 2022
I did a ton of research on mattress toppers. I like really soft mattresses (side sleeper) and was trying to make my Brooklyn Bedding "Best Mattress Ever" model in Soft (it's from 5+ years ago, they don't make this mattress anymore) a little softer. I saw some reviews and posts online mentioning that the "formula" for Tempur-Pedic toppers has changed and they aren't as high quality/dense. I was prepared for this, as I read that they were still worth it over a cheap memory foam topper. I don't know what the old one was like, as I've never had one before. Tempur-pedic currently has 2 models of their topper...the TEMPUR-Topper Supreme (which they rate as medium-firm, made with original Tempur material) and the TEMPUR-Adapt + Cooling Topper (which they rate as medium, made with Tempur ES aka "Extra Soft" material like some of their "Soft" mattresses now have). Being that I was trying to make my already soft rated mattress a little softer, I opted for the TEMPUR-Adapt + Cooling Topper (which costs more). The topper arrived and I immediately noticed the smell before even opening the box. I figured the box smelled from being on a delivery truck. Opened the box and realized it wasn't the box that smelled and it wasn't the foam. The cover is separate (you have to zip it around the foam once expanded). The cover smells ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING. Not like the normal foam off gassing or something, I mean just absolutely rancid. It seems to have some sort of gel/plastic layer for "Cooling", which I think is what smells (as the bottom of the cover without the cooling part doesn't smell at all). I aired the cover out on my outdoor clothesline all day in the sun and wind, but it didn't change the smell at all. Let it air out in a different room for another day, still on change. I did NOT try washing it, but it smells so bad I don't think I would want it in my washing machine (yes, it's really that bad). As far as the foam itself goes -- this is NO better than a cheap 3" memory foam topper. It's so soft that you sink right through it (tested with 175lb person and then with a 120lb person) and hit whatever is under it. It's literally like it's not even there. I have an ancient 1.5" memory foam topper (some green tea thing from Walmart) that was really cheap and it feels better than this Tempur-pedic one even after 6+ years. I should probably try the TEMPUR-Topper Supreme version, as the medium-firm might hold better without sinking through it. However, after this experience with how the cooling cover smelled, I won't try the other one as I don't want to keep returning them. Tempur-pedic should be embarrassed to put their name on this product between the disgusting smell and poor performance. Definitely not worth the price, that's for sure!
