I retract this glowing review. This product is dangerous. piece of plastic can choke
By Just KEN, thank you on Reviewed in the United States on November 5, 2022
I wrote the glowing review below and gave it 5 stars. Don't let that fool you. I retract those 5 stars and give it 0 stars or a one if the program won't let me give it a 0. I am not retracting entirely. I am in the process of trying to contact someone about the DANGEROUSNESS of this product. The idea SOUND'S great and I understand it. But the mechanics and physics which make this machine work are also the cause of so many complaints. Why, with so many complaints this machine is being marketed still yet, considering the inherent danger of a freeze up because of close tolerances and a small tiny chunk of plastic breaking off from the paddle, and someone unaware of it can easily choke to death on the small piece of plastic is beyond me. I have already written Jeff Bezos on this and have yet to hear back. Pray that he answers. This handy little machine exceeded my expectations in every way. I bought 3. At this price, you are ready if one "crashes". When your ice cream is almost done, it goes in reverse, and each time it senses the natural overload from the freezing, it goes reverse, this can last for a couple of minutes, back and forth which expands the ice cream with more air for a creamier experience. This is a value, no matter how you "mix it". Thanks Jeff for coming up with a superior product. Thanks Amazon! PS, I almost lost my head on this when I had a problem. The paddle locked up, wouldn't turn and I had to empty the contents, clean the container and start again. I thought at first it was a defect, when it was my fault all along. When freezing the bowl (not the contents), make sure you freeze the paddle along with the bowl, assemble quickly, empty your mix into bowl immediately and begin churning. It is meant to give a tight fit, but it will be too tight if you do not freeze the paddle. The clearance is close. This is deliberated to give you the best churn. When the paddle begins to resist, the motor will reverse. This will happen several times, as it should; one way then another. It gives an even better mix. and yummy.

High hopes and a huge letdown. Don’t waste your time or money
By Elizabeth on Reviewed in the United States on March 15, 2021
I did a lot of research and read reviews about this item before my pregnancy cravings finally had me late night ordering it one evening. I was so excited to receive the ice cream maker. When it arrived the box was in pristine shape. I immediately opened it and noticed what I thought was water spots on the inside of the bowl. Nothing was cracked or broken that I could see until I took the lid off. The inside bowl was very badly damaged and leaking. I had seen some reviews where this was the case but I realize things happen in shipping. I requested a replacement item. It came two days later. Again, box and everything else was in perfect condition. I opened the lid and notice two very small dents in the sides of the bottom of the inside bowl. I set the piece in that churns the ice cream and it didn’t seem it would cause an issue. I was still bummed that the second one was messed up as well. When I tried to put it all together I realized that the bottom of the bowl was actually bowed upwards and kept the lid from closing by about two inches. Therefore, making the product unusable. I was offered a 15% discount to keep the item even after explaining that the lid wouldn’t close and the item wouldn’t work. My other option was to return both the item and because I had already requested a replacement I would have to then reorder the item after I got the refund for the now two damaged machines I had. I obviously returned them, but I will not be reordering them. This was also the first time I have been disappointed with an Amazonbasics item and honestly their customer service as well. If you are considering purchasing I hope your ice cream maker arrives in perfect condition and you don’t have to deal with the back and forth, but also maybe mentally be prepared that it might be damaged. I also would not wait to put it together and make sure it works probably even if it actually does look ok.
