My printer won't connect to the cartridge

I've had this ink for 6 months. I only used it a few times and a couple times was tonight. then all the sudden my printer stopped and says that it cannot connect with the ink cartridge. I spent 3 hours cleaning reinstalling trying every troubleshooting thing there is and I still just keep getting that error message that it cannot connect to that cartridge. sure it is 6 months old but it is still full. so it was a waste. got to go back to the real deal
