It makes vacuming less of a chore

Be careful to read the description, I thought I was getting a fantastic deal until it arrived and was refurbished. Now it was refurbished very well and close to new in all respects, to include new parts, but used is used. It is very light and easy to use and switch out attachments. Unloading the dirt is easy as well. It does a decent job as a regular Dyson vacuum in most respects, but you can't match the overall ability of a regular vacuum to handle and clean every type of rug. This works great on hardwood, but will not work on a shag carpet. For the other carpets it was just fine and you can always go to the higher power mode if you want, but your battery life gets reduced to about 10 minutes if you do that. It is very light and easy to handle. Recharging can be done on the charging station but you have to find a place near an outlet to hang a vacuum and that probably will not be easy unless you like people seeing a vacuum on your wall. Call it "domestic art" I suppose. We hand ours out of sight and just charge it on the counter as needed at night. As a vacuum compared to a plug in - it would get 4 starts - but since it gets used more often than the plug in because it is easy to operate and less of a pain, it gets 5 stars. Cost plays a big factor with these. Dyson has numerous models and V models - so be sure to pay attention to what you are paying for. The V8 is not the most elite model, but I am not sure why you would need anything more. It has and does it all. And yes we have a dog and would recommend this for pet owners.

this is a refurbished product, they use the word "renewed" to avoid using the term refurbished.

my unit when I bought this came in not holding charge but for a minute or 2 after charging it like instructed overnight and the light indicators properly stating full....
I did not know it was refurbished, I understood "renewed" as "the manufacturer did a re release with improvements on this model of the V8" as I know that there are consumer laws that clearly cover refurbished items needing to use branding that clearly state they are refurbished... long story short the fact it is refurbished is abstracted, they put a link on the page that takes you to another page and it is in the fine print of that page that renewed = refurbished.
this also comes with a 6 month warranty. I work and have worked in IT and breakfix and I can tell you that when you only get a 6 month warranty on a refurbished item it is because someone crunched the numbers from data collected and that is the longest period before issues arise that they are willing to cover. Heating issues from improper battery discharge being a leading cause of this sort of thing coming up after 6 months and my unit ran only for 2 minutes and it ran hot on normal mode.
I returned it and bought a new one from dyson directly and have a 2 year warranty with it for about 80$ more but it also came with a bundle of extra head attachments and I got the model with the tile head so really you pay a little more for a lot more.
just wanted to leave a fair warning about this as I had to wait for about 2 and a half weeks to get my money back as its a third party vendor and I had no vacuum between that time.. I did get the refund though but I called amazon support multiple times to get the vendor to acknowledge the return after it arrived with them and amazon pushed the return through themselves in the end.
btw, I absolutly love my *new* dyson, it worked flawless and the units from dyson use the original batteries giving you 45 minutes and not 30.
