Awesome Kitchen Knife
By Todsah on Reviewed in the United States on February 2, 2025
This Knife is a real workhorse in the kitchen. The blade is sharp and cuts through veggies and meat with ease. I love the comfortable handle which has a nice grip to it. It's easy to sharpen and holds up well to daily use.

Ordered for a Christmas gift for my wife. The holding block was coming unglued, but the handles were the worst issue. I went to use one to slice dinner and cut myself on the handle rivets. The tang of the blade was not fully covered by the handles not on one of the knives but all of them. There was about a sixteenth of an inch of steel sticking out around the handles of all the knives. No quality control that I could see. I have returned these sad excuses for a quality knife set. Amazon should review their quality control for items they sell.

I looked and looked at knives to replace a 30+ year old main kitchen knife that had to go to knife heaven. I shopped expensive ones, inexpensive ones and everything in between, finally settling on the Wallop. It arrived nicely presented, and I found that it was very sharp. I was a little bit unhappy with something others have reported, that being that the tang edges extend a smidge beyond the edges of the wood pieces. But this was a small thing. I loved the knife and just like my old one, use it daily for many, many tasks. But a couple of weeks ago, my knife suddenly and unexpectedly broke in two. Whoa! I wasn't doing anything particularly demanding with it, it just... broke! After a couple of exchanges with the folks at Wallop, they agreed to send me a replacement and it arrived a few days ago. Same minor issue with fit of the handles relative to the tang, but I now have my favorite knife back again. Thanks, folks! While it's never fun to have a problem, I was very pleased that Wallop stood behind their product and that it was quickly made right. Would definitely buy again.

Knife handle needs finishing

You will need to sand down the handle to flush the metal with the wood. One reviewer suspects the wood wasn’t cured enough and shrunk once dry, leaving sharp edges. I used a couple 180/240 nail files... Then soaked the handle in wood oil for a few hours to swell the wood back. That did the trick. Once the handle edges smooth, the knife feels comfortable, well balanced, nice weight and sharp. I prefer the texture of wood handles, also because they never feel cold in your hand. I was apprehensive reading all the negative reviews which were all correct by the way, but still took a chance because I love the way the knife looks. Refinishing the handle was not a big deal, just a little time and patience, resulting in a fabulous knife at a great price.

This has become an oft-used tool in the kitchen. Cuts through thick sour dough bread like nothing. I LOVE the look of the wooden handle. I applied from boiled linseed oil to the handle, sanded it, applied more oil, and buffed it. Looks wonderful and will last a long time. It is made in China despite the German sounding name.
High quality for the money

This knife has a good heft to it, as of today 4.24.21 I have yet to sharpen it. We use it 3 to 4 times a week for food preparation. I imagine at some point it will need to be sharpened, which is easy enough to do. I am impresses that it has kept a good sharp edge with the amount of use that it has been given.

Solid budget nakiri

I was looking for a cheap Nakiri knife and decided to get this one. It arrived very sharp, but I have not yet used it enough to say how well the edge is holding. The build is very sturdy and appears to be of good quality. My only complaint is that the handle is really wide, and I'm not sure what I think about that yet. Depending on the size of your hands, this is something to think about. If you have smaller hands, it may not give you the best grip. Overall, I would say that this is a solid budget knife.
Almost great.

The only reason I did not give this knife five stars is because the bottom back point, below the handle, is at an angle that makes it stick out ever so slightly, so that it catches on your hand. I cut my hand once, thought it was just a fluke. Then again. And again. After the third time, I covered that tip with duct tape. A very sharp knife, it works great, except that that dang back tip is lethal.
