Finally, a device that makes great cold brew
By Denys on Reviewed in the United States on September 29, 2021
I'm a cold brew aficionado. I have tried several products to make my own cold brew rather than getting store-bought cold brew and they have all failed and have been returned. Until now. I have had the large Takeya cold brew maker for less than two weeks, but I can tell you, this one is a keeper. I have already made about 10 batches and I'm now having fun trying different coffees. Right now, I am trying 2 blends and comparing. My process is simple, I fill up the pot with filtered water to about an inch from the bottom of the white rim. I load up the filter with coffee ground coarse to the top of the filter. I attach the extension and then the lid, and slowly dunk the filter in the water. I tighten everything and swirl the water around for a minute or two to wet the coffee. Don't shake too hard or tip it around, well, unless you like grounds in your coffee. I leave the Takeya on the counter for the day, swirling it one in a while. At night, I place it in the refrigerator and the next morning I transfer to cold brew to another jar, clean up the Takeya and either make another batch right away or just put it away until the next time. Usually, I start another batch because it doesn't last long. The clean up is pretty quick. I dump most of the grounds directly in the garbage. I know some people use the grounds for other purposes, I don't, but I also don't put them in the garbage disposal. I then clean and dry all the parts with soap and water, rinse, dry and assemble. My observations: 1- The extension is sometimes finicky to connect to the filter. 2- I'm not sure how sturdy the actual filter fabric is and I treat it very cautiously. Thankfully, it's not an expensive unit and it's made of plastic so it shouldn't shatter. 3- Sometimes find a small amount of residue at the bottom, but since I've only been swirling and not shaking, that seems to have mostly gone away. I have had batches with no residue whatsoever. Just gotta be diligent. 4- It's actually pretty neat to see the coffee permeate the water over a few hours. I go for about 22-24 hours because I really like my coffee. Highly recommended. Make sure you start with good water and coarse coffee. Update June 2022. I have been using the device every day since I bought it. It's solid and has stood up well. I now brew the coffee for 48 hours. The first 24 hr sees the coffee maker sitting on the counter. It then goes in the fridge for the next 24 hrs. I use very coarse ground coffee from the supermarket. I've tried different roasts and types and I have settled on dark French roast. I fill the maker up to about an inch from the top, put in coffee to fill the basket up to the start of the extension. This works well for me.

convenient but (fatally?) flawed, sticking to toddy
By mike892 on Reviewed in the United States on May 26, 2022
I tried this one after using the toddy for a while. This is not as good. The toddy is superior for a few reasons: - the toddy makes you soak the coffee when you mix it with water. The coffee wants to float on top of the water, but mixing it gets it all wet and submerged before you close the lid. With the takeya you put the coffee in the filter, attach it to the lid, then screw the lid down into the water. Unfortunately the majority of the coffee floats and pushes up to the top of the filter and doesn't soak in the water. The instructions say to shake it, but it plain doesn't work. - the toddy gives you more coffee. Both use 56 ounces of water, but the toddy takes 12 ounces of coffee as opposed to 2 cups and gives a more concentrated coffee that you can dilute more. - the toddy has filter bags which results in very filtered coffee. Even if you skip the paper filter bags and just use the felt filters you get really good filtration. The takeya leaves coffee residue at the bottom like a layer of mud. - you still have to drain the filter over time. I hated that the toddy was so tall - I wanted to drain into the carafe but it was too tall to fit inside my fridge. (my solution was to drain into carafe for 3 minutes on the counter, then put it in a shallow dish and let the rest drain inside the fridge) I thought the takeya would solve this - but I still have to drain the filter in the same way to get all the coffee. one relatively minor thing - the screw threads on the takeya are really hard to get right.

A dupe for KitchenAid Cold Brew Maker

I was scrolling for a great cold brew maker that wasn’t too pricey and stumbled upon this. I originally wanted the KitchenAid Cold Brew Maker but wasn’t totally convinced with the $90 price. This cold brew maker was definitely cheaper and got the job done. It’s an easy prep and you have cold brew in 24 hours. I usually prep it for the week and pour it into another bottle but you can use this bottle to hold your cold brew as well. Definitely worth it for cost and convenience. You’re saving money on the product itself and spending money on cold brew because now you can have it in the comfort of your home.
Best Cold Brew!

We love the cold brew that this makes! It makes quite a bit and you can fill it almost to the top before putting the grounds and top on. I really appreciated the instructions it came with too for different mixes and styles of drinks. I like my coffee but I'm no expert lol. It can be hard to get the ridges lined up perfectly to attach the pieces, but with a little patience it's fine. With all of the other cold brew makers we've bought, even with the finicky tops, this is far better!

We like this a lot! Easy to use, let sit overnight and you have cold brew for the morning. Easy to pour. Easy to clean. Saves money from buying Starbucks everyday. This is the 2 quart size and it gives about 4 days worth I’d say.

Cold brew coffee is one of my favorite beverages. Picking up a daily cup at a coffee shop is sometimes inconvenient and definitely can get expensive. Well, this makes delicious cold brew! Now I can have it anytime I choose. It washes easily, it stores in the refrigerator door and the filter keeps all the grounds inside instead of in the liquid. I love this cold brew maker!!

Very sturdy, love the appearance of it in my fridge door. So easy to use. I have NO problem with leaking… I can only assume others are opening it too much when they pour. Waiting on a deal to get more! Also would be nice if they also did the pitcher in white…. Please :)

VS COFFEE BREWER: An old school coffee brewer to make iced coffee is fine, but I could never figure out how strong to brew the coffee in order to get a good flavor so that it still tastes good when the ice melts. VS K-CUP MACHINE: Specifically a k-cup machine that has an iced coffee option. The coffee ends up tasting a little more bitter and requires 50% more sweetener to get a good flavor. And if your k-cup machine doesn't have an iced coffee option? It's watered down and awful. VS OTHER COLD BREW MAKERS: The one I used before only made one serving of cold brew coffee, which meant having to wash it every day and then make it that night or go without every other day. Just a lot of work for not very much cold brew. WHY I LOVE THIS PRODUCT: The coffee tastes better and less bitter than other cold coffee methods, which means you use less sugar/sweetner! There's no guessing on the amount of coffee you use. Because it's a pitcher and the coffee last for up to two weeks, there's less clean up and prep work which gives you just over a week of delicious cold coffee if you drink one cup a day. Best product for cold coffee lovers.
