KYOCERA Revolution 2-Piece Ceramic Knife Set

If these Kyocera ceramic knives are representative of ceramic knives in general, then I gotta be honest: I'm just not impressed. After a couple weeks of ownership, it became apparent that the only quality these knives have that could be said to be superior over metal is their weight. Extremely light. So if you value the lightest possible cutlery, then *maybe* you could justify owning these. I was sorely disappointed in their sharpness. I could not pierce the skin of a tomato without applying pressure. A freshly honed/sharpened metal knife is unquestionably sharper than these ceramic knives. I got so annoyed with their lackluster performance that I attempted to sharpen one using a ceramic sharpener. After doing that I tried the tomato again. It just slid back and forth across the skin, only cutting through when I pressed hard enough to deform the tomato's surface. So I took it back to the sharpener and applied just a little more pressure. I pulled it over the sharpener once, twice, and on the third it splintered. Fur a moment I was frustrated at myself, as Kyocera does not advise the consumer to attempt to sharpen them and I didn't listen. But then I felt relief. No more having to worry about the dainty, toy-colored knife that can only be used for a very narrow selection of soft items. *Good riddance*
