Pleasant Surprises
By reluctant.mortal on Reviewed in the United States on July 28, 2024
This is our first air fryer. It replaces an old Cuisinart toaster oven, which as no comparison. The renewed one arrived in perfect condition. I would not have known it was renewed by looking at it. Flawless. It works very well. Though I have had it only 2 weeks, I have tried all the functions, which all work properly. Being old, I even like the mechanical (not digital) controls. We have had several pleasant surprises in terms of tast of foods we have prepared in this air fryer. Air frying cauliflower florets and zucchini wedges (coated with scant oil and grated parmesan) creates very tasty, healthy treats, which are unlike and better than - any I have ever tasted. Though the toaster function is excellent, I have discovered that air frying frozen bagels (sliced, but halves not separated) creates a taste sensation!. Now, doing it that way requires continuous attention, or else they burn. I found that, if I turn them over when the top is darkened as I prefer, I can avoid burning them. I then take them out and finish cutting the halves. Now, I put them in cut face up for less than one minute. Their texture (crispy on the outside) and taste are much better than just toasted. Amazing surprise. On the negative side - the tray/basket is somewhat awkward when you want to adjust or change position or turn over items you're cooking. That's because the detent which hold the tray when withdrawn, doesn't hold it in horizontal. If pulled out about half way, the outside edge of the tray tilts downward and the contents shift. The nature of this holding feature means I need to wear an oven glove whenever I handle the tray/basket combo. Once this is mastered, this design feature is of little consequence. The only other negative is the oven timer (and maybe the toaster timer, too). If the food is done before the timer goes off, it's important to not force the timer to 'off'. The instructions warn against doing this. What I do is either just leave the door open (door open turns power off the heating elements, but the timer continues to run) or just turn the temperature setting knob down to 'warm' until the timer runs out. No other negatives.

Item makes unexpected loud noise I suspect it should not. Also, interior light is nonfunctional. I will be returning this.
