Mucho Bang for the Buck (especially on sale)

I've had my eye on this watch for a few months and snagged it when Amazon offered a $280 flash sale. For that price, there's a lot to love. For starters, it's a great looking watch, much less "Inspector Gadget" than most of Citizen's Promaster/Skyhawk offerings. Dial is relatively clutter free make it easy to ascertain the time at a glance. While it won't win any 'lume wars,' lume is sufficient for my liking. Lume is not high on my priority list, though, so I recommend you watch a couple video reviews if it is for you. Though it is a little on the large size, it's much less weighty than any comparable mechanical watch. I have a similar watch from another brand that's about the same size but looks much larger on wrist due to the fact that the calculator ring is on the bezel instead of under the crystal. Surprisingly, there's no play in the crown that moves the slide rule ring and operation is smooth and precise. You'll need the eyesight of a hawk to read the slide rule, though, as the markings are quite small. The main crown at 3 o'clock is a screw-down and also feels beefy and well designed. Nothing fancy about the case or simple brushed steel case back, but there doesn't need to be on a watch like this in my opinion. I fully expected to replace the strap with one more to my liking, but the included leather strap looks great and is actually quite comfortable. The solar-powered Eco-Drive movement and its ability to sync with Coordinated Universal Time are what really make this pup worth its salt. If it can get a signal, it will set to the correct minutes and day the second you open the box. After that, it's a simple matter of adjusting the hours to the desired time zone. Since I don't get outside much especially in the winter due to disability, I also purchased an LED charging unit that fully charged the battery within hours. Operating instructions can be found on Citizen's website if, like me, your eyes are too tired to read the small instruction book included with the watch. Once you understand the basic operations, it's easy-peasy to change time zones or force synchronization to the atomic clock if it doesn't update itself. In all, a great purchase, especially if you can get it on sale.

I now understand why many have returned this item.

I have own the watch for only 4 months. The watch no longer reliably receives the radio signal reliably. Whilst the 'time' is correct, the date is no longer correct and cannot be manually adjusted to correct the problem. I contacted Citizen's service center and still have not received a reply. Very very disappointed.
