I guess I should have read the description better, although it still seems like pencils would be hard to stick through those tiny elastic bands but I haven't tried it. There was only a marker that "fit" kind of, but it was too hard to put in, so it was not worth anything to me. I don't use pencils. It would probably be fine for pencils
