Dissatisfying… (non-compensated review)
By Dirk Lonestar on Reviewed in the United States on June 9, 2023
I really like stuff that glows in the dark! I want that stuff to REALLY glow! I bought this Buzz, cuzz he was cheap, and he is supposed to “glow in the dark”. Well, the complete truth is that his suit has some kind of VERY thin spray coating of photo-luminescent paint. (The coating is so thin, that there are a couple places on the helmet, that did not even get any splatter.). However, the glow is SO unimpressive, that you could just as easily sell this “glowing” Buzz, as a non-glowing Buzz, and no one would ever discover the glow by accident! I do not collect Funkos. I buy the occasional random Funko, tear it out of its pristine box, and set it on a shelf. (BTW, the box on this Buzz was immaculate, and protected by an additional box, then inside the larger shipping box! You would have to stomp on it to damage the inside collectible box.). Anyhow, back to the glow… I exposed my Buzz to some intense UV radiation, the kind that would have ended him, if not for his Space Ranger suit! It took a moment, then a moment more… then it appeared, a faint bluish glow, that lasts for just a few seconds after the UV is terminated. It could have been awesome, but it is not. Blue is a challenging color too, not the brightest of the glows! Maybe if it had not been so sparingly applied…maybe? On top of ALL at his sadness , Buzz is too darned too heavy, and he falls over all the time. This will not be a problem for you collector folk, who leave him boxed in his cryo-chamber. But, now it will haunt you… you will always know, that if you were to take him out, PLOP! Well, at the 6 bucks price range, I guess I could drill a hole through his head and make a necklace out of him. (PHOTOS: Purple is UV on, then no purple is glow-in-dark. Buzz is with some glow tape, and a bag of glow pigment, just for comparative purposes. Green is stronger than blue, but Buzz has a very puny application of blue!)
