Flat bottom edge can’t be cleaned

I got this for my baby’s room to help fight winter congestion. I liked it overall - adjustable mist control, nightlight on/off, cute design, easy to fill. But the flat bottom part of the tank has an edge that can’t be cleaned. I’ve had this for a little over 2 weeks and the edge slowly started turning black. I can’t get into that edge to clean it, I’m not even sure how water got in that part. I feel like it should be sealed but I guess not. Since this is for my baby, I can’t risk keeping it and will have to throw it away.
