More powerful spray than I expected. Kinda wish it was less, actually
By Graeylin on Reviewed in the United States on September 7, 2023
I've tried waiting a few extra weeks before reviewing, to give this a chance to demonstrate itself. The good news is, it's super simple to set up and operate. Unpack it from the box, attach your choice of spray nozzle (included), and set it in water and sun. it just works. Right from the start, it did a spray, and it's done a fine job of spraying when the sun shines for weeks and weeks now. This does NOT have a big capacitor or anything to really hold a charge, so when it gets to dusk, or when the clouds cover the sky, it goes quiet. It will continue through a quick scuttle of a cloud across the sky, but if you stand in between it and the sun, it will stop within two seconds or so. But, it's truly solar powered, so... when the sun shines, it goes. It does not need direct sun, but it does need decent light. We have it on the north side of our home, where it sits in a pretty shady spot early and late in the day, and it still works, but you can tell it would be happier to be in direct sun, rather than indirect. My only complaints about this are actually the power of the spray... I was hoping for a small, "mushroom" shaped spray of a couple inches, but I definitely do not get that with the nozzle patterns. It sprays about a foot high, which is delightful for a display, but... when the unit drifts over to the edge of our little water tub, then it's shooting some of that water out onto the ground/grass/sidewalk, rather than limiting it to a smaller display and keeping more of it inside the basin. I fixed that by anchoring it to the center of the basin/tub, which helped with overspray. Now, it can't wander or get blown to the sides, and the splashes fall back into the tub, even with a small wind or gusts. If you are on the fence about this, get it. It does what it claims, it's powerful. I am not sure the nozzle variations actually do all that much for the display, but you do get a couple options. The Bubble and the Bell don't really bubble or bell... they just spray water in different shapes and odd angles, so I stuck with the spray for my shape. If you are looking for a perfect fountain display... this isn't it. The spray patterns are so-so. The velocity is high/good, but can't really be governed down. And it works when there's sun, but not through cloudy days. But, it's also only $40 for a nice, simple display that works well enough to make some noise and splattering sound in the water, and it should attract those things that like those sounds.

No battery backup, required continuous full/direct sun
By TricksyHobbit on Reviewed in the United States on September 2, 2023
I use a decent amount of Tetra products between pond and aquarium, having a generally positive experience and view of the brand. This product, I don't quite know. Pros: -It's as simple as a product could be. Literally just put it in the water and it'll go. -Four different spray patterns are included. -No cables required. Cons: -Because it floats on the water, the fountain moves around unless you tether it to something. Mine usually ended up in a corner. -Direct, fairly strong sun is needed for the pump to operate continuously. Otherwise it sprays a bit, sits there for a few seconds, and starts the cycle again. -As far as I can tell, there is NO battery backup. I left it in direct sunlight out of the water for a full day. When I put it in the water, there was no spray whatsoever. Do I love it? Not really. My pond gets a few hours of direct sunlight per day, but even then I don't get a continuous stream of water unless it's a VERY sunny day. It works, but I don't think it's made with PNW sun in mind. It probably works better closer to the equator.
