Almost 2 year review
By Mathew on Reviewed in the United States on February 20, 2025
I bought this in June of 2023 and it's held up so far. It has worked great against a couple seasons of those 100+ degrees Fahrenheit summer temperatures. My only complaint is that my unit sometimes rattles on the low fan setting. I don't why but it seems to stop when I press hard against the front right panel. It does require some maintenance to keep it cool. I clean my filters about every 2 months and it's still blowing ice cold. I like having this on at night when I sleep near me on low when it doesn't rattle. It makes kind of a white noise for me not hearing birds chirping, but just the fan blowing. LG ThinQ app works great for my LG ecosystem with my fridge and also TV with this.

Will probably leak on your floor or blow a circuit in your house

We rarely give bad reviews, but the circumstances associated with this purchase have left us no alternative. We installed a new hardwood floor in our daughter’s bedroom and wanted to use a portable AC unit to cool the space. We bought a new LG 10000-BTU Inverter Portable Air Conditioner unit that is designed to shut itself off if there is a potential for leakage. The unit was installed in the bedroom and ran trouble free for several months. It was not moved from that location during this period of time. We then noticed water leakage on the new hardwood floor under the portable AC unit and immediately performed routine maintenance on the unit (cleaned filters and emptied the water collection tank). The leakage was substantial enough to cause permanent damage to the floor. To prevent further damage to the new floor we bought a drip tray to put under the unit and a leak detection system to let us know if it does leak. We then called LG Customer Service to determine why the portable AC unit did not shut itself off before leaking on the new wood flooring. After over 45 minutes of discussion, they agreed to schedule a service call by D.G. Appliance Service. A technician from D.G. Appliance Service arrived and discovered that the unit had a cracked water collection tank. He stated that he had performed repairs of cracked water collection tanks in the past but did not have the resources (helpers) to repair it now. He left without fixing the unit and reported that the unit had "Physical Damage" to his supervisor. He advised us to contact LG Customer Service to resolve the issue. We contacted LG Customer Service on the same day and were told that the warrantee did not apply since there was "Physical Damage" to the unit. We disputed the finding because the unit clearly had this damage upon arrival, and we reported it within the one-year warranty period. It took several months for the defect to manifest itself for several reasons: First, the LG technical support documentation is very explicit in their warnings that the unit is never to be laid on its side (or back) and should be kept in an upright position at all times - Otherwise, you risk damaging the cooling system. In order to have detected this damage upon shipment we would have had to lay the unit on its side to be able to visually inspect the water collection tank located at the bottom. This is exactly what the technician did to determine that the water collection tank was cracked. We had to help him support the unit in a horizontal position while he inspected the bottom of the unit with a flashlight. Second, for the first few months that the unit was operating the weather was fairly mild, and the unit was able to evaporate the condensation as it ran without having a buildup in the water collection tank. The heatwaves that started in mid-summer precipitated the condensation buildup in the unit's water collection system and led to the leakage through the cracked water collection tank. Since the unit was never moved from its initial installation location there was never an opportunity to damage the water collection tank except for in shipping or manufacturing. We were forced into buying an identical LG AC unit to replace the first leaky one since the permanent venting that we installed in our daughter’s bedroom made switching to a different brand difficult. Upon plugging the replacement unit into our wall socket the circuit breaker in our main panel tripped. No amount of re-setting the circuit breaker would cure the situation and we were forced to pay an electrician to trouble shoot and replace the circuit breaker. We immediately returned the replacement unit and received a third identical LG AC unit that appears to be working. We have contacted at least a dozen LG authorized and non-authorized repair centers to fix the first leaky unit but none of them will repair a portable AC unit. So we have this POS sitting in our garage waiting to get recycled…

First, you should know I am a female senior citizen, and I installed this myself. It wasn’t easy for me, but it might be easy for you! This LG portable AC does the job! I was worried when it stopped cooling on the third day. But instead of getting upset and writing a bad review, I went to LG’s website and looked up support info. I found out that it just needs to defrost sometimes. No worries! PROS: It has a variety of of settings. Cools a small room very well without running all the time. Has a remote control. Includes window panels in various sizes. It’s about as loud as the oscillating fan I was using before, but shuts off periodically. CONS: Attaching to window is not as easy as it looks. Sometimes the remote doesn’t control the unit, and I have to try again. Remote has no backlight for night time use. It arrived in a beat up box and the hose attachment for the back of the unit was broken (I was able to easily fix it with duct tape and hook it up). In general, I recommend this AC. The temperature control is accurate and it cools my room very nicely.

Excellent A/C unit!!!!

I am thrilled with this monster of a unit. I love it. I have always used window units but have upgraded to a new window last fall where the old school style a/c can't go in without some sort of brace/shelf to hold it. On top of it, it was breaking the window sill with weight over time so I've been eyeballing a fix. Along came this unit at a fabulous price. I use separate a/c in my master upstairs because it's always hotter than downstairs and I learned, keep downstairs at 74-76, use unit upstairs to keep it chilled nicely. A excellent way to save $ on electric and house heat pump. This unit delivers!!!!! It's only spring in Georgia, but I needed it our first day of mid 70's. Man, this bad boy chills. It does have some sound to it. I have mine in my master closet that has a window so it's about 15 feet from the bed. I am used to a window unit noise so I don't mind it at all. I know it's bringing that sweet coolness to my domain lol. One thing about this unit that I don't understand at all. The piece that slides into the vented piece that goes in the window to block the opening must be cut to fit. The vent takes up space and blocks the ability to slide the extender into a normal 32"? window. I had to get a girlfriends man to cut it. It worked but there was zero info on anything about this. I was going to call the company but decided to put info on review. All in all, I definitely recommend this unit. My windows are free from getting damaged and I must say, the exterior look at the house with this style of unit is much nicer than the old style bulge.
It works!

Worked just as expected. The front facing output is nice so you can point it where you want it to cool. Also nice it came with all the window stuff and didn't have to purchase anything else to hook it up. Very easy to install and was a great fit for my son's room.
Great AC; but lots of erroneous answers on here from LG

It's quiet, and I love that the hose is attached. I will update this review when I've used the unit longer, but now that I have it in home, I'm here to say to others like me who want to use a taller universal sliding glass door adapter or for any other reason know the ACTUAL hose diameter... the actual diameter of the round part of the hose (not the diffuser) is not 5" as stated by "Ivan" from LG-- it's 5.9" so it fits universal sliding door kit's for a 5.9" hose, like this one. I just screwed it in, so take my word for it. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BXWJ9PBC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Secondly, the oval nozzle on the end of the 5.9" hose CAN be removed (which you may want to do to use the nozzle from a universal window/door kit) - you just unscrew it! It's so frustrating when you can't get correct answers even from the manufacturer, so I thought I'd come here just to help anyone else out. UPDATE: have used this LG AC for about a week now, and it totally cools my living room (about 420 sf). It's also definitely quieter than the two other portable Acs I've owned. I had a plexi glass insert made for my very tall slider, which I recommend if the included kit is too small for your window. Love the wifi feature - have used it when not at home. Very happy. And please note that a reviewer who posted a video here erroneously states this unit has "heat mode" - it most definitely does not have any heat mode. He was merely turning the temperature up on the AC into the 80's, admittedly a weird thing to do, but there is no heat mode or heating element. Only Cool, Dehumidify and Fan. And Sleep (which is a lower Cool mode). Check the specs - you'll see I'm right. Really like this AC!

I've been using it during summer and I love how it cools my place really quick. I just hope there's more support and parts to replace a broken piece since I got it with a broken vents but it's still working as intended it's just I can't redirect the airflow.
All around good portable unit with great cooling

This paragraph is my summary. I'm comparing this unit against another LG in-window unit. Both units are great at cooling a room. This portable unit lacks features that the in-window unit has. This is why my Overall rating is 4/5 stars. At this price point, I'd like to see this unit gain the "Energy saver" mode and full scheduling features that the LG in-window unit has has. My room measures 18 x 20 feet. First some power measurements... LP1022FVSM in Off/Standby mode: 3.70 - 4.85 watts Power draw Fan Modes: Fan only, lowest setting: 15.2 watts Fan only, medium setting: 20.0 watts Fan only, highest setting: 33.6 watts Up/Down swing: (Closed position reduces the wattage of the above settings. For instance Low was at 10.3 watts closed, and 15.2 watts full open.) Power draw in Air Conditioning mode: Min: 15 watts -AC compressor turns off when the room temp (72F) is below the setpoint (74F). Max: 1,109 watts Maintaining current room temp of 72F, outdoor temp 80F: 299 watts average Sound results: (non-scientific, measured at 3 feet from unit with a phone app) AC low speed: 42-47 dB at 186 hz AC high speed: 53-58 dB at 160 hz Note on sound, the fan turbulence is the greatest source. The compressor makes a quiet purring sound. I own an LG LW1222IVSM 1,2k BTU in-window unit and this LG LP1022FVSM 1,0k portable unit. I purchased this portable unit to replace an older, but still working, Whynter ARC-122DS. I found this LG LP1022FVSM to be superior in every way to my old portable AC unit. It cools quicker and does so at a lower sound level. Drawing less energy and running quieter. LG appears to have spent a lot of time hushing the motor noise. They did a very good job. The software/app allows me to schedule when to turn the unit on and off. I'd like to see the software features expand to include scheduling temperature setting and fan speed. This unit does not offer an automatic mode balancing the fan speed and cooling capacity.
