Solid, cost-effective, mini-split that isn't too hard to DIY install
By Matt on Reviewed in the United States on May 1, 2025
I finally finished installing this mini-split in my home (DIY). In hindsight, the installation is not that difficult, but I will caution any ambitious DIY'ers that if you've never installed one before, watch several Youtube videos of people installing similar mini-splits and determine your comfort level doing the install, because the included instructions aren't great. So far, the Tosot unit has been excellent. The indoor unit's fan is very quiet, has maintained a consistent temperature (currently using for heat, but look forward to cooling in the summer). The outdoor condenser unit is also surprisingly quiet. For those that don't know, this is basically a rebranded Gree unit, so it uses the Gree smartphone app which seems to work well (if you choose to connect your unit to WiFi). While I'm thankful it has the onboard temp display that is easy to read on the wall unit, I'm very glad you can easily turn off the LED display using the remote control. Otherwise, it lights up my whole bedroom at night. There are no other obnoxious LEDs on the unit to worry about in a dark room. A few tips for those that plan to DIY this install. You'll need an open-ended torque wrench or crow's feet adapters for a standard torque wrench. I had a hell of a time trying to figure out ahead of time what size crow feet I would need to tighten the nuts on the coolant lines. The instructions have the wrong nut sizes called out in their torque table. I believe I ended up using the 3/4" and 7/8" crow feet, but they don't fit the nuts very well. I think the nuts might be metric. Also, don't forget to purchase the correct R134A adapter to connect your vacuum pump. My three favorite YouTube videos that I referenced for my install were: "Budget Mini Split Installation for Beginners! w/ Vacuum Pump and Gauges" from DIY Solar Power with Will Prowse "DIY Mini Split Install - All the Things Nobody Shows You" from LRN2DIY And watch LRN2DIY's follow up video "DIY Mini Split Install: 3 Regrets After 1 Year of Use"

Never worked correctly
By nickm324 on Reviewed in the United States on December 5, 2024
I bought this 1 year ago and the specs said it will handle an area 450-750 sq.ft. I had this unit professionally installed in my insultated garage which is 400 sq.ft. In the summer it struggled to get the room even down to 80 degrees and ran all the time, and in the winter (now) it struggles to even get the room up to 65 degrees when its 41 outside. This unit has never worked correctly since it was installed and support was of absolutely no use, they kept trying to act like it was working correctly when it wasn't. Would not buy again. I am currently looking for a replacement unit and I am just out 700.00.
