NEVER going back to plastic!
By Concerned Consumer on Reviewed in the United States on April 13, 2024
We purchased the open top model (Amazon seems to be mixing reviews for the open and closed (the one with the round hole in the top) versions). It's GRRRREAT (as Tony the Tiger used to say!). First, it's incredibly sturdy. Not that anyone's going to stand on it, but this should last for YEARS. Stainless doesn't hold smells like plastic can. It's nice and big, giving our two cats plenty of room to move around (they aren't huge, one's 11 and the other 10 lbs as adults), so I have no doubt that bigger (15-18 lb kitties) would do fine with this. Specifically bought this, with the high sides, because our little fella was peeing outside the back of our old box (which had a fairly high back wall, but still a couple inches shorter than this). No such problems any more! As a proof of concept I first (before sinking the big $ into this) bought a plastic bottom/top box. It worked, but was smaller and did NOT have the EXCELLENT design feature that this has - the plastic top edges OVERRIDE the upper lip of the stainless steel base/box. So even if little Lyle tinkles on the upper plastic part, the urine does not leak outside the box! Another reviewer said that it was hard to clean. I disagree. I think that it will depend more on the LITTER that you use. We use Dr. Elsey's and while there may be a slight sticking if there's a lot of urine in one spot, it easily comes off, especially after lifting up a big wet glob, then pushing a little dry litter over it and give it one more pass, away it goes. I've owned cats for nearly 50 years, and always used plastic boxes until now, and this is absolutely no worse, definitely BETTER than ANY plastic box I've EVER used! Now also I think the scooper you use will make a difference, too. The tiny little "toy" scooper they provide w/the system is, IMHO, useless. We've long used a metal (aluminum alloy) scooper (like the WePet you can find on Amazon) and its stiffness helps. Truly, difficult cleaning has NOT been an issue. Another reviewer had a concern that the rolled edges of the stainless steel box hadn't been done well, and that he/she got cut. I hope that they complained and got a new box, that's inexcusable for the manufacturer to ship something that could hurt someone. But having read that review, virtually the first thing I did was visually check the rolled edges and then ran my fingers all along every inch of the one we got, and NO problem with this. Hopefully that was a one-off problem that was corrected at the factory, but no way ours could cut someone. I would have sent it back immediately if there was an issue! The top plastic part is well made, it's a very solid, stiff plastic and it latches (one latch on each of the long sides) quickly and easily to the bottom steel; no way it can come off accidentally (for example when cat jumps out). You purposefully have to slightly pull out the latch on one side, release it then tilt and the other side releases itself; I can take the top off with one hand. I personally think that it's easier to clean the pan by taking the top off (you can better reach the front corners of the box) but it isn't mandatory to remove; I've done it both ways but prefer to take it off. And reattaching is easy - gently push down the top plastic edge over one latch, then over the other, there's a definite snap that you hear and it's latched down. This also ensures that the needed overlap (see above) of the top over the bottom occurs so that urine drains down the INside of the box. There are some slots in the front edge where the cat enters/exits, but I will say that this is NOT a "trackless" box. Some litter still sticks in their little paws, but it's no worse than any of the myriad of other boxes I've used over the years and yes, maybe a little better, but there's no miracle here. Bottom line - go for something good - buy once, cry once, but know you're getting a really good product. I bought this with my own money, and this is my honest review after a couple month's use. I did find that it went on sale, which is when I got it - if you're interested keep an eye on it for a while, or use Camel Camel Camel to see if it's a good price historically. I do NOT regret anything, except that I waited so long to get one!!!
Top critical review
Lack of space when top attached
By Donna D. Plainfield, IL on Reviewed in the United States on April 14, 2025
I was going to buy 3, but decided to try 1 first. I only put this up about 7 hours ago, but already disappointed. It is about 1/2" less wide than stated and with the top on makes the opening smaller than hoping for. My 18lb cat had bit of struggle to get in and not much room for any of my cats to move. My plastic litter box I had was about same dimensions so was hoping more room than has. The top takes up too much room and not much room for cats to do their duty. Might be okay for small cats like 6lb, but tight quarters for my cats. Would be bigger without the top, but I need the high sides. Top takes up too much space from cats having adequate room. Probably would be okay for cats 6lb or under or kittens, but not good for large or multiple cats......not enough space if top attached. Glad I only bought 1. I haven't had enough time to see yet if it's high enough (1 of my cats ends up standing to pee...that's why I need high sides), or don't know yet if will be issue to clean, but was disappointed only in a few hours the lack of space when top attached.....Also, the scooper it came with is way too small, glad I already had larger scooper. I also don't like the front part of the top tray. I use pellet litter and feel that part is no help and actually takes away inside room that I would rather have had. I didn't realize until after that XXX boxes are sold...that's what I will try next!

No more odor, easy to clean and scoop

I am the crazy cat lady so to speak, LOL. I have two cats and for years I have been using the regular plastic letter box with top., hard to clean even with clumping litter. This new litter box is large comes with a plastic side, it is metal, great weight to it! which is great because one of my cats is male and it does not leak.. the plastic liver box can hold bacteria per my vet and since switching to a metal litter box, my mail cat has not had a urinary track infection. My back actually recommended a metal stainless steel type litter box easy to clean comes with a litter scoop also great price point. I got it when it was on sale so that was even better. Cat Approved.
Ultimate litter pan!!! Easy to clean and doesn't retain odors!

This was such an awesome find! Great design and function. My cat loves it! Litter stays inside, it's easy to see my cat using it, and "step out" helps to stop tracking of litter. Best part is that it's so easy to reach in for scooping and to clean! Old plastic pans retain odors and eventually crack, but the metal pan eliminates that problem. Only complaint is that the company should provide a metal scooper to match. The cheap plastic one provided is not strong enough for clumping litter and stirring the pan. I had a metal one from Walmart which I use instead.
Well-made and makes my life a lot easier

I’ve only used plastic hooded boxes with my cat for the last 3 years but wanted to try something new and I’m so glad I did. Scooping is much easier as clumps don’t stick nearly as hard. It’s also faster as I don’t have to take the hood off every day. The size is also large which is great since my cat is 13 lbs. The top attaches and “locks” to the stainless part so I feel secure in it staying leak free, that said my cat does not pee on the wall sides so I can’t fully speak to that. I was nervous that without the ceiling enclosure of a hood, that this would be messier, but it’s the same amount of litter outside of the box as always. Even with the hooded one, I had the door off the top part as she wouldn’t use it with those swinging doors, so litter got out the front entry. However, I’ve always kept and still have the box on a large mat made of several foam mats (like the puzzle exercise mats) so the litter stays on that even if it escapes the box. I also keep a hand vac right next to the box that I use daily. The same amount of litter gets out with the stainless box, the only difference is there’s a little more to the sides rather than just outside the front. But it’s not an issue for me and vacuuming it only takes a few seconds. Overall I’m impressed with this box. Scooping is faster and easier. Cleaning is easier. I’m just very happy with it.
I Like the box, but it’s a bit heavy

I Like the box. It’s Extra Large so my cats can move in it and pick their spot. Easy to clean. The sides and back are high enough so the litter doesn’t get thrown out. It is a little heavier than the XL plastic box I also have. The little step or lip at the front is never used by my cats. They always jump/step over it so they do have litter on their feet when they leave the box. It has the four rubber discs that you stick on the bottom so the box doesn’t move, that works well. However, since I wash the box regularly, the discs have moved so I can see them coming off in time. I don’t know how well the box will stay in place without the round rubber disc, but I guess having them on a rubber mat may help.
Functional, nice aesthetic

This litter box is great, I was worried that my cats wouldn’t like a top entry litter box, but they seem to prefer it to their open box which is really cool. The grooves on the top entry are nice because it holds in a little bit of extra litter from their paws. The stainless steel makes it easy to clean and scoop and doesn’t retain odors like plastic would. Not only that but you can barely tell it’s a litter box which is nice. It’s sturdy and aesthetically pleasing.

Love this stainless steel litter box! It’s big and roomy, and my older kitty that had issues with the previous, plastic litter box we had, is having no issues with this box. Clean up is a piece of cake. Happy we made the switch to stainless steel.
Stainless litter box

UPDATED REVIEW (8/20/24) This litter box is fantastic! My second arrived yesterday (purchased another; couldn’t beat the price!). Not only do they look nice and high end, they beat out the plastic ones by a landslide. The stainless litter box cleans up with ease (nothing sticks to it) and doesn’t absorb odor. The only thing I wish is that this brand had a closed lid w/front entrance option (there’s only a top entrance option). Although I love the ease of cleaning an open top lid (no lid to fumble with), the litter boxes unfortunately reside in the corner of our large family room. We have a privacy screen around them but it’s still unsightly to look at an open lid litter box. Although with three cats, I clean their boxes 2x a day. I have a litter box for each cat. End story, I wish I found these sooner. If anyone is hesitant on buying, don’t be. ORIGINAL REVIEW: Great litter box! Purchased the XL open top design, which is perfect for our two large boys (Tonkinese and Balinese); plenty of room for them to move around easily. Stainless is worth the cost and will never buy a plastic litter box again. The litter box is made of high-quality stainless steel and the lid is made of a durable, high-quality, thick and sturdy plastic (not flimsy at all). Tried and true—one of our boys aimed a little high and the lid’s high sides, overlapping design kept the urine inside and was able to clean the mess with ease. It also came with a plastic scooper made from the same quality plastic as the lid and the scoop’s slots are not overly wide, so it allows you to pick up every bit of mess but lets unused litter to still pass through. Very satisfied and highly recommend.
The Best Litter Box

I have 2 cats, one disabled and one elderly, and a pretty small apartment. The XXL litter box with raised walls is PERFECT. The size is big enough that I don't need more than one, and it fits perfectly in a cubby space in my apartment. This is ideal as I have had issues with my cats peeing out of the box due to being old/not having a foot, and now that is not a problem AT ALL!! They both also have no issues going in/out since there is the lower, open entrance. Scooping is easy also because it is nice & deep. Yes, some litter flakes escape sometimes, but it's significantly less than with your average litter box, and I feel you should always have a litter mat for extra bits of litter that escape anyways. I have tried at least 4 other types of litter boxes before finally deciding to invest in a nice, large one like this, and FINALLY I can say my cats' litter box area is PERFECT with no issues at all anymore!!! I couldn't be happier. :)
Wish I had bought this sooner!

I have a 15 lb female cat that has problems fitting in a regular size litter box and would always have spillage when she urinated. This litter box is perfect! Big enough in every way. Holds lots of litter and nothing sticks so scooping is super easy! I was worried about it taking up too much room but it does not take up any more room than a regular box. Wish I had bought this years ago.
