Coming Over from Cricut
By Kristen on Reviewed in the United States on April 15, 2024
So I've only ever owned cricut products and machines. And while I love the simplicity of cricut, I got increasingly tired of the issues with their design space. I wanted a backup machine that I could use in its place if needed, as well as something a little smaller. After a lot of research I dipped my toes into silhouette with this machine. The design studio takes some getting used to, and I have to re-learn it all, but so far I'm really enjoying it. I feel like there are so many more possibilities and the best part of all, I've had absolutely NO issues with it working flawlessly (only user errors). Plus the machine works amazingly! It's a work horse. Right out of the box I cut some stickers, and I didn't even need to calibrate it, it just worked. I like that. Some things to note, it's louder than my cricut. But I don't mind. And there is a lot more to learn in the design space. Coming over from cricut, it can be quite frustrating and difficult, however I believe it's worth it in the long run. I like that there are more options and you are more in control of your designs. I like the endless possibilities. I like that it WORKS! It's not slow or doesn’t crash on me. When I say "difficult" I mean it feels like I went from kindergarten (cricut) to high school(silhouette). Which isn't a bad thing, just different.

WASTE OF MONEY! DO NOT BUY!
By N. Alton on Reviewed in the United States on August 12, 2024
I bought this machine in 1/2024, now its 8/2024 the machine does not cut correctly due to the fact that the mat keeps sliding while cutting. I haven't found a remedy online. I emailed customer support from Silhouette America 3 times, and I've received no response. This is my second Portrait, I've had my first Portrait machine for years and it works, so I am not new to the machine. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY! This is the last this company will see of me.

I have been waiting to see what comes out for cutting stickers for my business. Glad I got it. Dors come with a learning curve but so far I have figured it out. I only have 1 complaint and that is the waste I am dealing with in my finished product. Wish the whole sheet of paper could be used. Seems only about 2 3rds is usable. But other that no complaints. Love it. Tones of videos on YouTube e for a person to learn from. Very well supported product. Definitely better than cricket. Ty for an awesome product.
Slick and efficient.

Make sure you have good lighting above the portrait4 so it can read your registration marks properly. After a lot of trial and error and all the YT videos I could find.. I love it. Definitely quieter than the protrait3. Do your research. Nothing wrong with hand cutting your die-cuts first!

I bought this after fighting with cutting stickers with my Cricut. This is perfect and the stickers cut perfect with no fuss or calibration. I love this and the ability to cut without a mat using the electrostatic mat.
Silent but not quite great

Liked : it did cut silently as package stated which I liked of the registration marks read correctly. Has an auto blade like portrait 3, don’t know how to put in a ratchet blade but more research is needed.Uses the same software to print and cut from.Cons: the mat that comes with it is not marked on where to place the paper like previous mats which may be nice because you can use bottom or top and closest to the left like others. Stored font have them in stock yet, replacements. FYI.You do have to buy your own USB as with previous models, duh, why not come with it?You can’t move the cutting mat over to the right if the machine doesn’t read the registration marks and there is no way to adjust the other white pieces that hold the paper or whatever you’re using in place so that it could hold it to another spot. It didn’t read my Bluetooth every time so the software thought I had to load the media each time and tell it to ignore each time.I could go on but I would just say to do more research on this machine before actually buying.Set up is normal, slightly different and the machine itself is not easy to use like portrait 3 so I returned this one and got a 3 again.
Product is defective and tech support is no help

See the video. The device makes a high pitched noise and it’s extremely annoying and painful. After going back and forth with tech support in email over the course of a few weeks, they ultimately said “After checking your registration, we noticed that the order was placed through Amzon. Since your order was not placed through our SilhouetteAmerica.com site, please reach out to your retailer with the same information you have provided here. They will take over the process for replacing your machine. On Amazon, please go to your order details and find the actual retailer. Click on the retailer’s name, then choose Contact Retailer. Provide them with the information shared here, and they will email you with further instructions.“When you follow the steps they describe, it tells you to contact the manufacturer…WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT I DID AND EXACTLY THE PEOPLE WHO TOLD ME TO CONTACT THE SELLER VIA AMAZON.I have used silhouette since 2011 and am a die hard fan of the cameo. I like this product too, but the tech support (or lack thereof) is infuriating. This product itself is nice. It’s smaller and cute but for the cost, I almost wish I just got the new cameo, especially now that this one appears to be defective.

I’ve had a silhouette portrait for 7 years and it was time to upgrade it. Not much because I wanted it but the old one was just not working properly anymore. This one is great. It’s a tad bit bigger than the original. I’m excited that’s compatible to the new ES mat, and also that it has Bluetooth (my old one was sooooo old it had to be connected by cable)But I had to knock 1 star off because it has no instructions what so ever.At all.I even checked the website and no manual for the portrait 4 either. Soooo bizarre.I mean I’m a seasoned silhouette user so I was able to figure it out (even tho I still have no clue how to change the size of the manual blade 🤦🏾‍♀️) but what about new users?!?Also even though my silhouette studio was up to date I had to reinstall it because it wouldn’t recognize the new machine. Strange.Other than that loving it so far.
