Love this Roomba
By Laura on Reviewed in the United States on April 18, 2025
Several weeks ago I asked for input about what people liked/disliked about robo vaccs they have had. I researched several different brands before deciding to go back to a Roomba, debating whether to go with a new model or a refurbished one. I settled on Amazon’s iRobot Roomba j7 (7550) Self Emptying Robot Vacuum (Renewed Premium) I love it! The 360 hovers that we had would not go past the “skirts“ on our couches, seeing them as a barrier. The Roomba goes right under. I have found that it sometimes likes to stock pile dog toys against the wall. Even Roombas have to be able to have playtime, apparently. This is a much more interactive unit than the prior robo vaccs we have had. It takes pictures of things for me to review whether they are truly obstacles. These can range from me walking by in my slippers, to dog toys, or even strings dangling beneath the loveseat. If the bin is full, it goes back to base to empty it, then returns to vacuuming. I don’t trust my pets enough to risk letting it operate on a schedule when I am not here to help it avoid possible messes (more likely to be cat vomit than poop, thankfully, which it is said to be guaranteed not to run through). I think my only complaint is that it doesn’t always keep the area surrounding the base as clean as the rest of the floor.

Some things you should know about this
By Sheldon on Reviewed in the United States on February 1, 2024
First off, the unit comes in a box with no peripherals. No cord, no documentation, nothing. I was glad it at least had a bag in the base. You'll need a standard power cord for consumer electronics (like a computer or stereo). The setup: Without documentation it's google and guesswork. It took an eternity to get mine set up and customer service was no help. They wanted me to charge it an additional 24 hrs before helping me. That turned out to be no part of the issue. The app could not complete setup no matter how much I tried. After a few fruitless hours I got to manually give it the wifi information. One very important thing here, if you have a modern Wifi6 or higher system you should just create a guest network that is single band, otherwise the unit will never connect (so no smart connect, no Wifi6 or 6e, no dual band). Yeah it says it will work with 2.4 or 5ghz networks but not with modern load balancing setups. You'll waste some time finding this out. Once you get your phone and the unit on a single band (I chose a 2.4ghz guest network) you will be able to manually configure it and it will finally set up and you can then use the app on any wifi (like your normal Wifi6 connection). It's much smoother sailing from there. Going refurbished saves a LOT of money and the unit was nice and clean when it arrived, but the lack of parts and documentation plus the frustrating lack of support (tech support was foreign and heavily accented if that's something that bothers you) require you to be pretty comfortable with tech. Buyer beware. Edited down to one star from two. The vac cares not for what you want it to do, throws error codes for no reason, and generally misbehaves constantly. It's overpriced, underperforms, and generally isn't worth having. Trying to get it to finish cleaning or go to it's dock or do anything after an error is pointless, you have to carry it back to the dock yourself. Never again. Added picture of how well "pet detect" avoidance works. 4 months in this thing has the battery life of a five year old iPhone and eats s**t like a Canadian hockey team in the finals, but don't worry it takes pictures of you naked sometimes before selling the data. How did Amazon pass on buying these guys? Buy a Shark.
