Love this cocotte set for serving soups and chili. Work great for oven and microwave.
By Judy L. on Reviewed in the United States on January 5, 2025
I have a few Staub items including various sizes of Dutch ovens and have love them all. I was looking for a dish for serving 2 cups of soup or chili for dinner. I have another set of these that I measured what they would hold. Since they would hold about 12 ounces comfortably, I ordered the .5 quart size (16 oz) thinking they would hold 2 cups. As it turned out the .5 qt. size is the same as what I have which is smaller than I wanted. Although they do hold 16 oz., the measurement is to the brim. My husband like to add crackers to both soups and chili, so the 16 oz. size wouldn't work. I decided to return the 16 oz. size and ordered the .75 qt. (24 oz.) hoping they weren't too large. This size is perfect. I can serve 2 cups of soup or chili and there is enough space above the food to comfortably top the dish with crackers, cheese, or whatever else without fear of it spilling over. I very much like all of the Staub products as they are very durable as I have had many of the pieces I have for over 8 years, and they still look like new. The Staub Dutch ovens can be used on the stove top as they are made of porcelain coated cast iron, but they can not be used in microwave. The ceramic pieces, such as these, can be use in the microwave and oven, but not on the stove top. I have never had a problem with the finish scratching or chipping on any of the Staub products I have. Although they are very easy to clean by hand, my husband does the cleanup after meals and puts them in the dishwasher. I personally believe the Staub products rival the much more expensive brand offered which I also have. I do very much recommend this set of cocottes, but be mindful that the capacity stated as it is to the brim. If you need any space at the top, I suggest you order the next size up. I hope this review was helpful for you.

Staub Buyer Beware: Different, cheaper-made version.
By foodandwinenerd on Reviewed in the United States on April 28, 2024
I bought these to round out my existing collection of Staub 16 oz. rustic ivory pumpkin cocottes. I had 8, and I wanted another 4 to be able to serve a table of 12 guests. I was excited to find them on Amazon, as they'd sold out everywhere online since Staub stopped producing them in the early 2020's. They must've decided to start production again, as these were immensely popular. When they arrived, however, it became abundantly clear that these are a much cheaper reproduction. The details are less defined and sloppy. Plus, almost more baffling, they're noticeably BIGGER than the older version, even though they're both listed as 16 oz. And I'm not mistaking them for the larger 24 oz. version. These are supposed to be 16 oz. I thought they might be a counterfeit item, but there were the standard Staub leaflets inside that you'll find accompanying any Staub purchase. Absolutely bizarre, and not a good look on Staub. These are priced cheaper than the originals were, and I can certainly see why. For any long-term, loyal Staub customer, these are a hard pass. (Attached pics are a side-by-side of older version vs. new version).
