GREAT manual pepper grinder, with a bonus salt shaker on the top.

I really love this grinder. It came packaged well, and when I received mine, there was a white scuff mark on the frosted glass that immediately rubbed off with just my fingertip. The top "salt" portion was held in place with a shrink wrap of plastic, which peeled off easily. Before you can use it, you need to unscrew the metal bottom, and peel off the foil vacuum cover from the pepper corn reservoir. The foil on mine did not peel off easily, but that's not any sort of deal breaker. The top of the grinder has a separate inlay cup, about 1-1/2" deep, for some table salt, and that salt portion has a sliding open/close lid. The only problem I have with this function is that once you shake salt out of the top, remaining salt crystals stay in the perforated area, making the slider hard to close again. Simple solution for me is to leave it in the open position. The pepper grinder has an adjustment knob on the bottom. I chose a setting midway, and got clean, consistent ground pepper. The pepper that was shipped inside the unit was fresh and pungent -- and delicious.. To be clear, this grinder is NOT battery powered. But as a manual grinder, it's beautiful, well built, fully functional, and priced well enough to make a great gift. Highly recommended!

Good design, with some questions
By Wen Lau on Reviewed in the United States on January 4, 2024
The design is excellent for a modern, informal and convenient salt/pepper mill such as on a kitchen table. It can also be used for kitchen purposes, but the relatively small salt container might make that impractical. A nice surprise was the full amount of peppercorns sealed in the mill. They were still fresh when we tested them. There are, however, a couple of details that are in the way. First, the frosted glass area is quite large (probably to provide a handhold on the rough glass surface) and provides a large volume for peppercorns. But the glass has some white marks/abrasions(?) in a ring just above the silver plastic portion (see picture). Wiping them with water (which makes the frosted glass more transparent) seems to make them go away, and we hope they don't return. Also, the frosted glass tends to pick up moisture and oils when handled. These might be removable with glass cleaner, but it's a little unreasonable to have to clean the glass after each use. And while the plastic compartment at the top for salt is removable (and so allows for cleaning it as well as the glass part), it is rather small and so might need frequent refilling. Last, the grinder part appears to contain no metal, which would avoid corrosion, but we wonder how long plastic grinder parts will last.
