Excellent quality finger guards
By LokmanyaThilak on Reviewed in the United States on July 2, 2025
Syokami brand does not disappoint. I have their knives and really like them and that is why I wanted to try these finger guards. The quality is great. The adjustable fit is a good design. It definitely protects from the sharp knives. The herb stripper is a thoughtful addition. It works a expected and it a good product for the price. I would recommend it.

Not useful

We are cooking daily at our house. I am not a professional chef although I pretend to be! And yes, I have cut my fingers multiple times. Not once, not twice but many times. I was skeptical about this item when I first saw it. Those of you who cook regularly understand the reason. For the rest, and without writing a long essay, it has to do with the way you are holding the items to be cut. In any case, besides my reservations, I thought to try it. Unfortunately, the outcome is exactly as I predicted. These guards are a nuisance for those who work seriously in a kitchen. They might be helpful for young kids who are taught to use a knife but... after you know how to use a knife, forget about them. You waste a lot of time and you are not cutting as well as you should. Just think: If they were as useful, shouldn't be popular among Japanese chefs? And other chefs, wouldn't have copied them? My other concern is that the price ($20 at the time of this review) is extremely high for two small pieces of stainless steel. You pay this price since a lot of thinking has been placed to make the packaging impressive and, hence, influence your judgement as soon as you open the box. Just look at other reviews. Almost everyone refers to the quality of the packaging. However, the packaging is irrelevant. The function of the guards is the only relevant thing you should be evaluating. Addendum: I tested it with fresh dill to test the stripping claim. It does NOT work. I tried the three smallest holes. The dill either gets stuck or it goes through. Stripping basil leaves (or other spices with large leaves) is easy to do by hand. A tool proves its value only if it can help with the items that are time consuming (in this case, dill, thyme, etc.)
