Throw-Away
"Is … is she here right now?" asked Rod.
"Is who here, Rod?" said Pamela with hostility in her voice.
"Pamela …" Rod said as he reached across the table for Pamela's hand.
She jerked it quickly away and tucked in under the down alternative throw she had draped over her shoulders. "AS YOU CAN CLEARLY SEE," Pamela said loud enough for the security cameras to pick up. "There is no one else here but you and me."
Rod sat back in his chair and sighed.
Pamela ran her hand over the 100% soft Micro fiber fabric. "Not that I would know if there was someone else here," she said. "They've got me so doped up on medication I barely know which way is up."

"I brought you another blanket," he said as he placed it on the table and pushed it towards her. "Just like the one you have. You know, in case you have any other … visitors."
Pamela traced the edges of its box stitch construction with her finger and avoided eye contact with him.
"Well, I guess I better get going," said Rod. "I love you, Pamela. I'll see you next week."
He pushed his chair back from the table and walked to door. Pamela didn't say a word. It wasn't until it had shut behind him that she finally looked up from the blanket. That's when she noticed the cloud of smoke billowing from behind.
"That's what he thinks," said Sylvia with a puff of her cigarette. "Don't worry Pammers, I've got a plan."
The fire alarm suddenly screamed to life, and the hallway was soon packed with patients, milling about confusedly. Pamela watched, waited-
And then smiled.
