It's not the size of the vacuum that matters, it's how hard it sucks.
Ever since the break-in, things had been weird between Brant and Lesley. Brant was playing it off as PTSD, but was afraid it might be something bigger. And handsomer. And more exotic. Like a certain raven-haired heroic neighbor he knew.
This morning, he found Lesley happily whistling away while vacuuming the sofa with a new Dyson DC31.
"Lesley, is that a new vacuum?"
"Mmm hmm."
"Well, Kitten, you know … we already have two vacuums."
"I know, but this one is so lightweight and ergonomic, it's perfect for jobs like this. The dual power mode gives you 10 minutes of high constant suction power, but Raoul says he can get 11 minutes with his."
"He did, did he?"
"Yeah. He gave me a full demonstration the other day when I took him those cookies to thank him for … well, you know."
"Is that so?"
"Uh huh. I was skeptical at first but Raoul is VERY convincing. What actually sold me was the bin. It's so quick and easy to empty, and you don't have to touch the dirt, which leaves your hands free to do other things."
"What kind of other things?"
"While I was up there, Raoul showed me how to make his famous Paella. He gave me a little taste from his spoon and …"
Brant didn't hear the rest of what Lesley said. He was stuck on the part where she mentioned taking a bite from Raoul's spoon. As a rule, Lesley never shared food from the same utensil or even drank out of the same glass as someone else. She was too worried about germs. So why was it suddenly OK?
"So what do you think?" she asked?
"Huh? What do I think about what?"
"What do you think about Raoul moving in here while his floors are being redone. I mean, I think it's the least we can do. He DID save my life."
"What? You can't be ser …"
"OK great! I'll tell him!"
Brant stood dumbstruck as Nameless Puppy pawed playfully at his shoelaces.
"Oh, and I was thinking," she continued. "Isn't it about time we gave the puppy a name? What do you think about RAOUL?"
Brant didn't answer, and Lesley didn't wait for one. She just smiled, flipped on the DC31 and continued whistling happily while she vacuumed.
