You know what they say about art... pretty much everything. Because art is about opinion.

Okay, if we're being honest, the INVESTMENT of art is shaped by a few influential critics building on each other. And those critics love the rush of power they get and so do the people with art history degrees who can't actually do anything but be a critic. But how many "art" pieces are good? Well, we can't say. Because "good" is a metric that varies from person to person.

Take a puppy made of flowers back to the 1400s and see if anyone wants to spend their entire fortune on it. Alternatively, put the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in an underground performance space and see how many people say it really captures their feelings on the world. Art varies so wildly from person to person and place to place that we really can't say what's "good" or "bad" at all. All we can say is "This is something that other people will build upon" or "Hey, this looks pretty great in my bathroom!"

Which brings us to today's art sale. Like, probably you're not going to find anything you can sell to a millionaire investor or a piece that will change how we think about art. But will there be something you like that you can hang over your toilet? You bet. And, as we know from Duchamp, that's the only ACTUAL place that art matters.
