Cast Iron Pans are like cats. You don't really have to clean them the way you'd expect.
A cast iron pan doesn't require the level of scrubbing and scouring that a normal, non-cast iron pan might. Why? Because a cast iron pan requires a certain amount of lubrication to stay healthy! Just a as a cat uses its tongue to clean away the horrors of day to day life, so too must a cast iron pan be left to take care of itself after every meal.
That's not to say you can't sweep the veggies into the garbage or pour the hot bacon fat into the face of your enemies. Just be kind to your pan. Don't scrub the bottom until you can see your face in the shine. Don't let it sit in a sink full of soapy water for two days. Don't stack it on top of the cheesecake and say "It'll be fine for now" until you need it.
Treat your cast-iron like a member of the family. Watch it's moods. Sometimes give it a little birthday party, or some extra engreasening for no reason. Take it to a movie, bring it flowers, make it feel special! Remember, you and this pan might be together for life.
