Danielle took a sip. “Wow, Phil. This is much better than that coffee you used to make. Like, really better.”
Phil looked smug. “I found a guy nearby who does beans,” he said, pouring a cup for himself. “I’ll introduce you if you want, he’s like four blocks that way.”
“Is that East?”
“How the heck would I know? Was I a Boy Scout or something? It’s just that way, I’ll walk you there sometime.”
Danielle moved over by the Frigidaire 12-Cup Coffee Maker. There was still a lot of coffee left, and the Coffee Strength Selector was set to strong.“Phil, are you kidding me? If we drink this we’ll be up all night!”
Phil crouched down next to the couch, still covered in unpacked boxes. “And what’s wrong with that? You still have a lot of work to do before you’re fully moved in. I figure twelve cups of coffee means six for you and six for me, and then you can make me breakfast at sunrise!”
Danielle let out a shocked laugh and Phil held up his hands. “Because we’ll work all night, Danielle! If we’re going to be neighbors we’re might as well help each other.”
“Are we neighbors, Phil? You’re three floors down from me.”
“We’re all neighbors, Danielle. It’s one big happy building.”
Danielle turned her back on Phil and started setting the Pro-Select LCD Display clock. “Who lives next door to you?”
“What?”
“Next door? Male or female? Married? Single? We’re one big happy building, you’ve got to know.”
Instead of an answer, Phil took a long sip of his coffee. Danielle decided to figure out how to set the 24 Hour Programmable Start Option. Not because she needed to, but because if she turned around right away, Phil might see her grinning.
