My days at culinary school grow long, just as the ache in my heart grows long, for you. Matilda, let it trouble you not the cost, for each cake I bake brings me closer to the title of Master Chef, First Rank. And yet, still you are silent. Perhaps you are in mourning? Just last week I was reminded of you, when I saw in the paper that a girl in your town had succumbed to malnutrition after eating nothing but cake for a fortnight. Did you know her, my darling? If so, I am sorry for your loss.
