Rugs can be high maintenance. Some more so than others.

These Momeni 5’3" x 7’9" Wool Rugs look pretty much like your standard durable; they’re hand-carved Persian carpets that are fade, wear, and stain resistant, right? Wrong! Look closer. That’s right! These rugs are made from 100% New Zealand wool! For those familiar with it, you know that this is a HUGE plus! However, if you’ve never owned anything made from the shavings of Kiwi sheep, there are a few things you should be aware of:

• New Zealand Wool needs to be fed at least three times a day. The typical meal includes four thin slices of ham and two celery sticks split down the middle. Give the wool privacy while it eats. Generally, the process takes about twenty minutes. When you return, you will find the food still appears whole, but trust us, the wool has absorbed all of the nutrients it needs.
• It’s best to keep your cat away from New Zealand wool. Not for fear of physical harm, mind you. It’s just that cats have a tendency to fall in love with it, while the wool, on the other hand, is just excited by the “thrill of the chase,” and will thus most likely break your cat’s heart as soon as things start to get “too serious.”
• While it is not uncommon for a rug made of New Zealand wool to move about your house while you’re away at work, it’s also not very respectful. The rug is testing its boundaries, so if you arrive home and find it in a new spot, you must, quite literally, put it in its place. For particularly stubborn rugs, there are corrective sprays.

Keeping these three simple points in mind should allow for you and your New Zealand wool rug to coexist peacefully. We DO have more we’d like to say about this subject – a lot more, actually – but we’re going to hold off for now. (Because we’ve got one of these Momenis in our office, and honestly, we don’t want to offend it.)
