What's the Hurry?
Lesley ran her hand over the perfectly creased hospital corners, and smoothed the duvet cover at the end of the bed. One by one she fluffed the goose down pillows and stood back to admire how they looked, propped against the new Skyline Tufted Headboard.
She was so glad she hadn’t let her encounter with those rude sales clerks at Ruttles discourage her from going back in to get the headboard. With its chocolate-colored upholstery and hand-tufted buttons, it really did create a lovely focal point in the room.
“That headboard really does create a lovely focal point in the room.” Brant walked up behind Lesley, put his arms around her and gave her a little peck on the cheek.
“Thanks, honey. I’m glad you like it. I was a little worried that it wouldn’t fit right behind the mattress, but luckily the legs are adjustable. They’re pretty sturdy, too. Metal steel alloy. And the frame is solid pine.”
“Oh really? Sounds like a challenge. Why don’t we put it to the test and see just how sturdy is really is?”
Ever since they had made up, Brant wasn’t pulling any punches with his affections.
Lesley playfully slapped him on the shoulder in mock offense, but she giggled when he gave her another peck, this time behind her ear.
“Aw come on, Kitten. Wouldn’t you love a couple little baby feet pitter-pattering around here?”
Lesley smiled at the thought. A sweet little golden-haired bundle, freshly powdered and happily cooing in her bassinet. But then the reality of a baby started to sneak in to her subconscious. The dirty diapers. The incessant screaming at 2 a.m. Sticky fingers on the drapes and grape juice on the carpet. Oh God, not her white carpet!
Lesley jumped up so suddenly and hurried out of the room so quickly that Brant was left dazed. But all the way down the hallway he could hear her mumbling something about needing to call the pharmacy.
